See, this is why pilots make the money they do. They have to be prepared for situations exactly like this. From what I understand, the moment the engines failed, the pilot was in complete control of the aircraft and managed to bring it down as slowly and softly as possible into the Hudson. That is about 25% luck, 75% skill. True this is a miracle, however it was so because the pilot recieved the training he needed and had the right mindset to handle the situation. Anyone can crash a plane (on Flight Simulator it is all too easy) but it takes a really execptional pilot like the dude here to crash it SAFELY. I mean if I were to go onto Flight Sim right now, hop into my virtual Airbus A320 and take off from LaGuardia airport with the engines set to fail 1.5 minutes after takeoff, there would have been damage done. But this guy is AWESOME, I mean to handle a jet like that weighing X tons with Y amount of surface area going Z hundred miles per hour is totally cool.
I hope the airline doesn't fire him. Even if the plane did get damaged (which it probably did, a little bit), I think the pilot should be PROMOTED, or at least given a massive pay raise. It's people like him that keep people flying and the airlines profiting because the people think it's safe... which in the hands of a professional, it's as safe as driving to the same place you're flying to. (Probably even safer, I mean you never hear of people getting mugged at 40,00 feet, unlike those shady "last chance" gas stations...)
