I change it to - What is a compliment you remember as child and/or adult?
My mom said "I was kind."

Some one answer. It's making me look like an idiot.

I was always the class freak so I've never had a teacher give me a compliment.

What about a parent or a other adult?

From parents it was usually nothing specific. Generalities like, "we are proud of you."

From elementary teachers, it was "you are a gifted writer."

From college professors, it was "you MUST pursue a doctorate..."

My art teacher told me how gifted and creative I was at art.

She even asked me if she could take one of my paintings to Japan and wrote me all the good praise it got. Later that year, she wanted me to help her out in other classes.

I have to say, she was one person that made me special. I was so use to people telling me how slow or not up to par I was in many things.

I'll never forget her as long as I live....... :(

People often commented that I was a 'good child' because I never got into any trouble like other kids. I just didn't know how to. :P

No never anything that was real and sincere. I grew up in a hillbilly, redneck town and was just way too much of a freak for anyone there. One good thing to come out of that was it taught me to NEVER look to others for approval. I do things for #1 and #1 only and it has served me well.

One of the staff who works at my school said that even on the baddest of mornings, the way I always greet her with a smile cheers her up. :)

In Year 7 a teacher said I'm a talented writer. That's the nicest thing an adult has ever really said to me. Most of the time when teachers say something nice there's always a "but", you know, like: "Gina is an intelligent student BUT she talks too much/doesn't talk enough/never meets deadlines/etc." And my mum never says ANYTHING positive to me.

Usually, teachers told me that I was very intelligent, but didn't fulfill my potential. An English teacher once wrote on my report card that I'm too sarcastic and negative, which I kind of took as a compliment. Definitely a step up from a math teacher informing my Mom that I had nothing to offer in class.

It's weird, but even in college as an adult, a lot of my teachers seem almost threatened by me, like they have to be 10 times more critical and nitpicky about my work than anyone elses. One of them even tried to correct my pronunciation (and she was wrong) of "neue helvetica" when I said it during a presentation, as if she were searching for something, ANYTHING, to nail me on, just to make sure I knew who was boss...or something.

Other than that, I get the patronizing "we're proud of you" talk when I'm down sometimes, even when I haven't really accomplished anything.

A Social worker said "I was attractive and had a pleasant personality."
Another said, "I am friendly." In a foster home I was told, "I was more geniune and/or respectful than the other girls" - I overheard that. A other carer would say "Isn't she gorgeous."

My art teacher last year really liked my art and always said how good ti was. My drawings were always throughout the school. When we did a play ( mandatory) my reading teacher said he was surprised how loud I was. Gram said I am helpful. Everyone says I am very smart.
