What are some of your favorite sayings? If you only have one that's okay too. A favorite saying of mine is: "It's easier to 'let the cat out of the bag' than put it back in."

Most useful is probably "Bits of me are excellent" instead of the conventional but untrue "fine" in reply to the greeting "How are you?". I don't have to lie, and it often passes for being witty.

Shakespeare holds many of my favourite sayings, light and dark.

And then there's this: I've weighed it several times, and suspect it may be true.

"If one wishes to find consolation in this world, one must be prepared to accept at least one or two large lies" Graf Ulrich von Bek

(From Michael Moorcock's The Warhound and the World's Pain)

"If a thing contradicts its nature, it ceases to exist."

"If I [can] err, I [must] exist." or in the Latin, "Si fallor, sum" (from St. Augustine)

"Asserting something doesn't necessarily make it true." (a very useful refutation  )

And my own saying: "Never underestimate the human capacity for self-deception."

My favorite saying above all others:

Quote:
"Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it."

--Wolfgang von Goethe

A funny one I heard recently:

Quote:
"Were an Asiatic to ask me for a definition of Europe, I should be forced to answer him: It is that part of the world which is haunted by the incredible delusion that man was created out of nothing, and that his present birth is his first entrance into life."

--Arthur Schopenhauer

"What doesn't kill you can only make you stronger."

"There is no Try. Either you want to, or you don't."

"Nothing tastes as good as Thin feels."

"If at first, you don't succeed, try, try and try again."

"If you see this Jet a rocking, don't come a knocking, Baby!"

Here are some Me-Erisms:

A valid response to every conceivable situation:

- "Gah"

If someone is unfocused or doesn't have their eye on the prize:

- "You're in bree town man!"

If I want to be arrogant and convince someone that what I'm saying is the truth:

- "You can shove THAT in your Fact-A-File!"

Just about every time I sneeze I say "God bless America, 'cause it needs it more than I do."

"C'est la Vie, etcetera."

Felix qui potuit rerum cognoscere causas.
"Lucky is he who has been able to understand the causes of things."

"Pale Ebenezer thought it was wrong to fight,
But Roaring Bill (who killed him) thought it right."

I know there's plenty more. I just gotte remember 'em.

I'm on pins and needles.

It reared its ugly head.

You are the cat's meow.

Straight from the horse's mouth.

He knew my Achilles' heel.

This is as plain as day.

It was darker than midnight.

She stopped cold turkey.

It's colder than death.

He is skin and bones.

Throw the man a bone.

His bark was bigger than his bite.

His eyes were bigger than his stomach.

I have butterflies in my stomach.

Busy as a bee.

Sweeter than honey.

Full of sugar and spice.

It tastes sicky sweet.

Sick as a dog.

He has a dog's stomach.

Devoted as a dog.

She has the devotion of a prostitute.

The prostitue has a heart of gold.

All that glitters is not gold.

You are a goldmine of information.

You are a treasure trove of information.

There is gold at the end of the raibbow.

Every cloud has a silver lining.

It's raining cats and dogs.

They're fighting like cats and dogs.

Comparing apples to oranges.

A rose by any other name still smells as sweet.

She is a rose without thorns.

There is a fly in the ointment.

Fly like the wind.

Free as the wind.

Free as a bird.

A bird's eye view.

It's a mile from here as the crow flies.

Kill two birds with one stone.

The last nail in the coffin.

Bury your emotions.

Ten feet under.

Bury your secrets.

Dead as a doornail.
