Seen 'em. Akira was pretty good, and I enjoyed Miyazaki, but it is not what I'm looking for right now.

THANK YOU, FINALLY!! ! Somebody mentions Code Geass. In my opinion it is one of the greatest anime ever, especially if you like suspense. And the first episode is priceless! The only problem is that way too many plot-important characters get the axe in the second season. I'm not talking about dramatic, drawn-out lets-have-a-soliloquy-before-we-kick-the-bucket kind of deaths, most of the time it happens so suddenly you're like "WTF they're actually dead?!"

Trust me, more people die in the second season of Code Geass than in most of Shakespeare's bloodiest tragedies. But REMEMBER THE FIRST RULE OF ANIME: If you do not see them die, if you do not physically see them take their last breath or get blown into dust, 9 times out of 10 they are still alive and will return to wreak havoc just when you've written them off for good. And even if you do see them with a bullet in their head, they can STILL come back. Just look at C.C. and all the times she should've died. It will seriously screw with your mind.

Code Geass is good, it reminds me of Death Note except takeing a bit of the psychological for action, I love those times where you have no idea what in the world Zero is doing then all of a sudden it all falls in place you just have to say genious. I am watching dub, I got bored of it for a while but when I came back I remember how good it was especialy the episode "One Million Miracles" and that was brilliant. Talking about the rule about villains coming back if not seen dead, one of the biggest cases of that has to be the villain of Full Metal Panic, now he was unbelivable follow as if there was a small chance he was back, also the villains were nuts. But Full Metal Panic was another good anime, my favirout season was the second (Fumoffu), which took the combat out of war and put it in school and normal life settings, like training the football team into literely blood thirsty killers.

Hellsing is good, I would recomend watching the TV series first, as even though it may not feel like it it is toned down a bit to what the OVA's (Ultimate) are, plus since the OVA is still going it is cool to go from the TV to the even better updated. A lot of people critisized the TV series for not following the manga, which is opposite to what the OVA's are, I just got the 9th volume of the manga today, now I only need the 2nd volume which was one of my favirout OVAs, with Luke's slicing and Jan's obscenity.

I second everybody who says Hellsing.

I also think you should try Trinity Blood, Kuroshitsuji and D. Gray-man. If you read manga, I suggest Franken Fran. As a warning, FF is very gory, but if you were able to sit through several episodes of Elfen Lied, you should be able to stomach it.

That's interesting. It's actually the cover to Castaways and Cutouts, the 2002 debut album of hyper-literate alternative rock band the Decemberists, who I enjoy.

I can not stand series without a conclusion - I do not have the time, energy, or even the desire to sit through hundreds of episodes that were obviously dragged out to maximize profit. A definitive end to a series is a good thing.

Something that is intellectually challenging is also heavily desired.

If you like the realistic anime, I recommended you Dennou Coil.... my most favourite anime so far :D

Dennou Coil is a good one, it is simular to real life with a sci-fi twist, with mysterys that begins to confuse you as you go along, often one being replacedd by a bigger one, though with a bit to look at other actions, and finaly a nice conclusion that ties it up. Each episode start with a suposed rumour and usualy leaves you on a cliff hanger.

Hahaha...yess, you put it so well. I love the way they end the series, so touching without being cheesy. Oww... I forgot another one, Welcome to NHK ( NHK ni Youkoso). So realistic anime and felt like live-action plot made into anime.

tenchi muyo ova&gxp(there are three seperate story line universes with the same characters the first is the ova And it coincides with gxp storyline I cant realy explain well how to find that do to extreamly difficult non conforming misnaming by variouse sources so even ANN has a confuseing formating)
Is one of the best of the old school.

but from what you discribed I would go with iether kiddygrade, creast of the stars,

if you liked neon genesis evangelion than gunbuster and aquarion gunbuster has an exelent ending and aquarion is sad but not as bitterly as evangelion more upbeet and lots of action humor and good animation while keeping to the mecha fights monsters to save the world and only the chosen not so few can with a hint of tragedy and other such to keep things going.

So Aquarion is a MUST

About the Death Note/Code Geass relationship, I had a friend on Gaia in the Code Geass guild who posted a 20+ item list of similarities between Light/Kira and Lelouch/Zero. Just the fact that she could make a list that long scares me. So I went and made this motivational poster using a poster maker site:

It's crappy quality, but it proves my point.
