You know, I never thought I'd start a thread like this but....innovation never ceases to amaze me and when I catch it in a hard enough dose it calls me out - not much I can do :).

Breakage - So Mars

Data - Blowpipe (I recently heard Skinwalkers for the first time, had to see what else Data had to his credits - f**ing brutal!)

I've always wanted to get into DnB, but never managed to - in the past I've tried LTJ Bukem and some of the more ambient stuff, which I still think is the best kind. Recently, I've been listening to a lot of High Contrast and AK1200 but they just couldn't hold my interest. But you posted four great tracks. Do you have any other recommendations?

Your looking for more ambient edged stuff? I know Dinn Warde's sets are pretty good for that, LTJ usually has Conrad - don't mind him but the audio quality's a bit sketchy for a lot of the live sets. For me I'm big into Loxy's mixes for the past few years, mostly the kind of dark/ethereal he deals in. Some other guy's who are good in that sense - Spirit, Digital, Ink, Skitty, Commix, a lot of the names that have flowed through Metalheadz really. Alix Perez and Sabre also throw down some deep & mellow stuff, as does Caliber.

For me though while I like a lot of depth I also like a bit of ruffage in the mix. I tried starting a thread off of this but no one so much as looked at it before:

If you're looking just for specific tunes by title, look around the second or third page of the dubstep thread - I posted a monstrosity of a list over there (cataloged it at least by content).

Here's something else that much more along the line of storming dark d&b, really can't figure out why I didn't have it in the list but oh well:

This guy's one of my heroes. How? You just have to listen to what he does with the percussion, sounds, and track structure.

I like a lot of drumm and bass, but has anyone actually manged to figure out a way to dance to it? Wheneather I try I seem to end up falling over.

And in the north uk party scene it seems to have been replaced by psy trance, which is a shame. Psy trance is crap.

At least around here what people did was danced to the swing or syncopation, usually lots of liquid and bending with the beat (that is if you weren't in the breakers' circle). If its really slow dark though it probably looks a bit like goth pain-dancing :P.

I've kinda noticed you guys seem to like the newer deeper edges of it.

That said this one's kinda tasty :). Only downer is its a segment rather than a whole tune:

Everytime I've listened to Drum and Bass I haven't cared for it, It's cool on some levels but something's always missing. But I've recently been listening to Squarepusher and find his music amazing, I think it's the jazzy roots he has. I like the mixture of drum programming and effects with his style of melodies.

Do you know who produces music similar to Squarepusher, techstep? Stuff with more of that Jazz/melodic thing going on, on top of mess with your head programming?

Does Squarepusher even fit into the Drum & Bass genre? I'm not really clear on the delineations, and internally I really don't care for genre names...
