Someone on Oprah said he spent from 4PM-9PM JUST on Facebook! IMO I see no point to it and have only found my sister, cousin, mom and old Psychology teacher I upset (WHICH I HOPE DOESN'T DENY ME!! !) So what's the deal with it?

It's addiction to communication, same as being addicted to WP.

Oh wow thanks! I don't see the point except the examples on Oprah of showing friends a vacation/wedding/new baby etc. which I have nothing of that nature and as I said I don't have many friends on there now so for me IMO if the Psychology teacher I upset doesn't except me I don't think I'll stay on it since I see no point.

Sorry, I am apparently misunderstanding you. I am on Facebook, so I'm not saying that being addicted to it is a bad thing. I thought you were wondering why someone would spend 5 hours there. No need for sarcasm.

I'm on Facebook! I just found one of my 3rd cousins (who's family we've been trying to track down for years since they moved to a different part of Holland) and I can talk to my cousin Sjaak without having to do the whole time-figuring-out thing.

There are also groups on there too and support groups you can join. You can also find your old school mates.

Seems like many people get addicted to just
having contact with someone online - i dont
use facebook, i will if i find a good reason or
that i have use for it but that hasn`t happend
yet, people keep nagging on me to join though..
annoying. I just dont see what use it would be
to me - Facebook to me is sort of a "hey everybody,
look at me, here i am, look at me, look at me" and
thats just not interesting in any way for me, the
only site i`m on where people chat is wp. The rest
of the sites i use is just to get info and do buisness.

I do see the plusses with facebook if one is looking
for someone, makes it a little easier, but i rarely look
for anyone, quite the opposite. And people look for
me, so if i had a facebookpage i would probably get
requests from people i knew 15 years ago, and thats
just not gonna happen, no way. I`m done with those
people, i hardly knew them then and i couldn`t care
less about them now. I know some other people who
got the "hello, how are you, long time no see" message
from someone they went to kiddy school with. Wtf 8O
If i got that from someone i would just say "whats
wrong with you? i dont know you, we saw each other
20 years ago and now we are suddenly pals? no way,
this is just stupid, goodbye".

Sorry I don't mean to sound sarcastic. I'm just not that type of person to be into the "in" thing. I didn't have an Ipod nor did I see the point of 1,000+ songs I then got an Ipod Shuffle for my Birthday. I also only opened a Myspace account to see a pic. of Madduck from WP and that's IT! :-) I'm hoping my old Psychology teacher responds I'm 50/50 on she will say yes/no. :-) I think it's great you found a cousin. :-) I searched for old friends but perhaps they changed there last name or don't have a Facebook. :-) We'll see how things develop. Again sorry to seem sarcastic that wasn't my intention. :-) If it's any constalation I'm not into in fashions either I hate the new clothes/sunglass HUGE EYE stuff. :-) Oh and HATE EASTER/SPRING FOR ALL THE DAMN UGLY PASTEL STUFF!! !! !! !! ICK!! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !

I check it every day in case there's an update with my family members - I'm kinda the messenger for my part of the family so I hear everything that's going on in Sjaak's family (when relevant to us) and then I tell, meeting Ellen was just pure dumb luck of 'let's look up my great-grandma's last name' and then messaging her cause she lived in the area we thought their family had moved to (and we were right!)

I go on it every day... to play Space Invaders.

I also go on there to talk to my half-sisters - who found me through the site :D

I use it to keep in touch with people.

I really like the advanced privacy settings that they have. that way I can have all my info (phone, website, home address) only available to a small group of people that contact me on a regular basis, but not visible to for example old classmates. old classmates only get to see very few bits of my activity on facebook.

then people from work also have some info restricted, like my website (I don't want my boss to find out about the extra income it generates :p). I have a "black list" of people who only see basic profile, and I have some information that is only available to 3 of my closest friends.

it's quite cool, a lot of my good friends live abroad so being able to see the pics of their kids, parties, weddings etc and knowing what is up with them is great.

I don't spend much time on it though, I check it once-twice daily when having a coffee at work. I'm much more a last.fm user.
