Characters in books with Asperger's or HFA. Not suspected, but knowingly portrayed by the author as being AS. They seem rare enough.

The ones I've discovered so far:

- Christopher John Francis Boone; The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon.
- Crake; Oryx and Crake by Margaret Attwood.
- Victor Hoppe; The Angel Maker by Stefan Brjis.
- Cornelius Taine; Manifold: Time by Stephen Baxter.
- Dr. Kio Masada; Alien Shore by C. S. Friedman.
- Lou Arrendale; The Speed of Dark by Elizabeth Moon.

Any others?

I wrote an essay once about several characters in Oe Kenzaburo novels who I thought exhibited signs of Autism/AS... I'll have to dig it up.

Mr. Massey from "Daughters of the Vicar", a short shory by D.H. Lawrence..

"when Mr. Massey came, there was a shock of disappointment in the house.. there arrived a small man, scarely larger than a boy of twelve, spectacled, timid in the extreme, without a word to utter at first; yet with a certain inhuman self-sureness... they soon saw that he lacked the full range of human feeling, but had a rather strong, philosophical mind, from which he lived."

Typical Aspie!

Mr Twiddle from Well, really, Mr Twiddle! By Enid Blyton.

- it's a series of comedic stories for children about a middle aged married man who gets confused all the time and makes silly mistakes - like forgets to wear his hat in the rain, or takes something literally and comes back with the wrong groceries - that sort of thing, and his exasperated wife doesn't know what to do with him.

"The story of Mr Twiddle, who is always doing something silly such as putting fireworks on the fire by mistake, trying to read the herrings and feeding the newspaper to the cat. He just can't remember anything." (Amazon)

I used to love those books because he used to remind me of all the mistakes I used to make at home, how I used to get confused with things/forget instructions, that sort of thing.

I remember that I've read The neverending story written by Michael Ende a few years ago.

I recognized me in the little Bastian Balthazar Bux and I think he seem to be like an Aspie.

Jane Eyre. She was so fixed on ideologies and always spacing out and needing to be alone.

What about Smeagol in -Lord of the Rings-. He seemed fixated on his Precious.

Wait, we're just looking at characters who are explicitly autistic.

How about the Blue children from Manifold: Time? They're explicitly described as having autistic features--although they are also superintelligent.
