I think yes. Well, for the very most part anyway. As a group, we don't TRY to be out of the mainstream we just ARE. I'm not talking about goths, emos or punks that just rebel for the hell of it if you know what I mean.

I know what you mean. A lot of NTs say "to hell with society", but they don't mean it, they are trying to appear cool. When an aspie says it, we really do mean it.

I get told off for not trying to conform to society. I don't want to change myself for a bunch of ignorant bastards, that would just make me unhappy. And I couldn't give a rat's ass about a society that wants me to be unhappy.

I guess no, I don't think so.

Or else there wouldn't be people with AS wanting to talk with each other and form their AS identity together. Many do conform to a common identify and view, so these many feel just as much wanting to conform to some sort of unity as everybody else despite their AS.

Say no to peer pressure! All the cool kids are doing it.

I think we find it more difficult to conform than NTs. I spent my whole teenage years trying to fit in, with no luck. I turned 18 and thought, sod it. I'm not trying anymore. Now I am so much happier just being myself, and although natural to me, to others this appears as being non conformist. I'm an interesting, beautiful, slightly weird freak and I love it.

That's me too, I never fitted in no matter how hard I tried, except I started to be myself slightly earlier, around 15/16. Since then I have continued to do some strange and childish things people would consider weird, but I get over it now and ignore them. That's just me!
You certainly find out who your real friends are.
