I don't mean to exclude guys, you can answer too,but I'm more interested in whether the ladies out there play/played with dolls when they were kids. I did not, I was "unclear on the concept".

I'll be embarrassed if it turns out I played with dolls as a kid more than the girls here did.

i had some she-ra dolls (which are female action figures with sparkly outfits) and sometimes i would act out survival scenarios with them. my (NT) sister prefered barbies and kept them looking neat by brushing their hair lots. she also had a baby doll, which she would pretend to be a mother to, but i didn't like my sister's baby doll because i thought it was really ugly.

I didn't have much interest in regular dolls and I didn't like barbies at all. I went through brief phases when I played with dolls (I had a sister who liked them), but not very often. My favorite toys were stuffed animals.

I got in a lot of trouble for playing with my sister's dolls. It could be because I didnt' ask for permission, or it could be that I gave them back missing limbs (or my favorite, heads) and telling my sisters that some animal had attacked them....

I was more likley to be seen playing with Cars and Trucks and anything else that had wheels. I did play Dolls with my younger Sister, though.

LOL maybe I should rephrase the question: Did you play with dolls in an NT way - taking care of them, dressing them up, pretending they were real babies, stuff like that...

i did take care of them after performing surgery - after all, care is required, especially after an amputation, or (another favorite) a transplant.

Ha ha, now that you mention it when I did play with barbies all I did was remove body parts and try to put them on others. Never thought of it as amputations and transplants, though!

As a male, I played with dolls...

let me clarify

I liked dumping my mom's briefcase full of her old barbie dolls on the kitchen floor in one big pile, driving a little toy firetruck into them, and watch body parts scatter everywhere. My mom was less-than-thrilled about my behavior.

I had a cheap action man type doll. I pulled his head off and turned it iside out to see if he would look like an alien.

I remember having one doll as a child, which I promptly removed all the hair off of. So to answer your question, no, I did not play with them in a NT way. I preferred going to the "old peoples" houses and plucking the heads off of mom's flowers and floating them in buckets of water. I also played with the mosquito larvae and sorted them by color.
Oh I also LOVED my big wheel and the real tonka toys in my sandbox.
