Dune. Just awesome.

A song of fire and ice. The best fantasy series i've ever read.

Neverwhere. Awesome, only read it recently but fell in love with it, it's like a fairy tale for adults. Highly recommended.

Sci-fi in general. If i had to pick one sci-fi story though has to be "the darkness" by asimov. It's a short story, track it down if you can.

ps:- asimov story might not be called "the darkness" not 100%, it's the one about the alien culture who live on a world with 3 suns and have never seen darkness before. Classic SF story.

I like fantasy stuff, and that's most of what I read (with the exception of newspapers and manga).
My current favorite books in the fantasy genre are His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman, A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin, The Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson, The Dark Tower by Steven King (tho' I've only just finished the first book, it's very good), Terry Pratchett's Discworld books, and A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin.
I also like H.P. Lovecraft, though his works are more supernatural horror than fantasy.

Well, if I let myself list more than one, I'll be here all night, so...

My number one of all time top rated number one book is *drumroll*

Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett

I got a new copy for my birthday, signed by Neil. The drive to the book signing was a little over three hours (and then back, in the middle of the night), but it was the best night of my life! I got to meet him, and they bent the rules and he signed a couple extra books when we said it was for my birthday.

Also, I used a bleach pen to decorate a plain black t-shirt-- it had a very abstract sort of picture of Crowley and Aziraphale on it, and when Neil looked up at it he smiled and said 'You have a Crowley and Aziraphale shirt', and I swooned.

*sigh* I could barely get a word out, I was so star-struck... The second we left the table, I was kicking myself for not being able to talk, but it was still the best night ever.

Which is sad, perhaps, but at least I have a copy of my favourite book signed by Neil Gaiman.

American Gods (Neil Gaiman)

Catch 22 (Joseph Heller)

The Catcher in the Rye (JD Salinger)

Call of the Cthulhu (H.P. Lovecraft)

Calvin & Hobbes series (Bill Watterson)

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time (Mark Haddon)

Harry Potter series (J.K. Rowling)

His Dark Materials series (Philip Pullman)

Idlewild (Nick Sagan)

Johnny the Homocidal Maniac (Jhonen Vasquez)

Maus I & II (Art Spiegelman)

Of Mice & Men (John Steinbeck)

The Prose Edda (Snorri Sturluson)

The Sandman series (Neil Gaiman)

The Shadow Over Innsmouth (H.P. Lovecraft)

Tithe: A Modern Fairy Tale (Holly Black)

Watchmen (Alan Moore)

The Zombie Survival Guide (Max Brooks)

I'm about halfway through Valiant, the semi-sequel to Tithe, and I love it so far. Took a little while to get going, but once it did, whew. Loving it! Ditto for World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War, the follow up to the Zombie Survival Guide, except it's seriously depressing so I can only read a little bit at a time.

Robert Ludlum is my all-time favourite author. In my university years, I didn't have TV a lot of the time, so I read books. I bought a whole lot of used Ludlum novels, and of course, my favourites are the Jason Bourne trilogy. I generally don't read much now (too much TV, internet, radio, etc., distracting me), so I don't have much of his work from the 1990s onward. The weird thing, though, is that one Ludlum novel is exactly the same as every other Ludlum novel, but I still find each one entertaining.
