I really want to figure out a way I can add these guys to my list of only five bands =/

Let's see...Tony Iommi from Sabbath was in Jethro Tull for a week or two, so there's that...Yes has shared members with Genesis and King Crimson...Uriah Heep has shared members with Ozzy's solo stint right after getting kicked out of Sabbath...I think that about covers it ;)

Stay away from the Gabber if your ears start bleeding ;)

I was going to post earlier saying I couldn't narrow my choices down to five (or ten, or fifteen) but liked something of everything - except jazz and the mutated gabber/happy hardcore sound that's so popular with the kids here (north-east England)... :)

Anyway I still can't narrow it down enough, but I'll go for:

The Charlatans
Kirsty MacColl
The Sisters of Mercy (who "aren't a goth band", no, really...)
(with lots of punk, folk (in the widest possible sense of the word) and rock; currently big into Indigo Girls and Faudel)

White-British (culturally very English), 31, transgender, working class, master's degree.

I like way too much music. I like at least a little bit from every genre.

I usually listen to more upbeat music. I'll list some artists I listen to, but that will barely cover my selection of music that I listen to.

Joe Satriani
Blues Saraceno

Yup, two artists. Of course, there are a lot more, however I listen to only a small selection of the others. The two above I have every album for. The rest of what I listen to on a regular basis, I tend to only listen to one, two of their songs, sometimes an album. I have 32 playlists currently, some of a specific genre or artist, others of mixed genres/artists.

I love music, and while I don't love all music I hear, I can appreciate a lot more than most.

27 year old white male with a Bachelor's Degree.

I like too much music to possibly narrow it down.
But here is my attempt to do so:

Genres:
* Psychedelic Rock and Jam Bands (Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead, Flaming Lips, Jimi Hendrix)
* Beatle-inspired pop/rock (Beatles, Rolling Stones, Kinks, The Who, Radiohead, Modest Mouse)
* Grunge (Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden)
* Indian Subcontinent (Ravi Shankar, etc.)
* Jazz (Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie)
* Blues/Blues Rock (John Lee Hooker, Robert Johnson, Led Zeppelin, White Stripes)
* Experimental (sound collage, noise, ambient, improvisational)

OK, I'll stop now, otherwise I never will.

Male,16

Cynic (Progressive/Technical Jazz-Metal)
Mastodon (Progressive Metal)
The Mars Volta (Progressive Rock with Fusion, salsa etc. influences)
Allan Holdsworth (Jazz Fusion guitar player)
Tribal Tech/Anything with scott henderson (another Jazz Fusion guitarist with a thing for the blues)

In addition, i'll also listen to more traditional jazz and earlier jazz fusion like: Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, John Coltrane, Charlie Mingus, Herbie Hancock, Pat Martino, Larry Corvell, Pat Matheny, The Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report, Return To Forever etc. As well as a couple of metal bands like: Meshuggah, The Faceless, Necrophagist, Obscura, Isis, Death, Megadeth etc. And finally i also appreciate a bit of the blues: B.B. King, John Lee Hooker and so on. And even composers like: Mahler, Wagner, Bach, Debussy and John Cage.

American, female, 41

I don't really like particular artists so much as individual songs. However, I usually consistently like songs by:

Leonard Cohen
Statler Bros.
Nickelback
Bowling for Soup
Elton John

Patricia

Female, 36.

It's difficult to name only 5, because music is my obsession. But here we go.

Haggard
Nightwish
Epica
The 69 eyes
Oomph

But you can add to tah list hundreds of metal gothic bands, gothic rock, folk, folk metal, industrial, punk, after punk... along with classical and chanson, original sound tracks....
