Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Aspies vs auties? Why?

I use Aspergers to describe myself; this is for social reasons. Most people have heard of, and have a stereotype of, autism. I'm usually a long way from said stereotype, and I use the word Aspergers instead because no one knows what Aspergers is. Those people who have heard of it will have a better ...

I use Thunderbird. It does the job and that's the most praise I have for it. I also use Gmail, but I prefer Thunderbird for managing my email.

Disproving religion cannot work, by definition. Religion is a set of beliefs that you accept on faith - without proof. A religion that offers proof is not a religion. If you require proof to accept a religion, then you obviously don't believe in that religion - and never will. An atheist might see r...

I use Common Lisp, although Arc looks cool and is developing fast. I like how lisp lets you define your own abstractions. For example, I've seen people define their own object system and syntax for it in less than a page of code - something much more like C++/Java than the Common Lisp Object System,...

I f*****g hope not. This isn't going to be a popular opinion, but if I could take away my AS and all of the things that come with it, I would. I hope it's not "trendy". I don't have the right concepts to even begin thinking about that. I mean, where's the dividing line between me and my Aspergers? W...

Most of the popular stuff played on the radio seems horrible. There's exceptions - The Edge has played Blindspott, Salmonella Dub, and Fat Freddy's Drop - but mostly it's crap. I don't listen to the radio anymore, I have other ways to find new music without having to sift through the irritating s**t...

First, xkcd is really really awesome. And they have cool forums.

But please, please don't post comics with half the joke missing. The alt text when you mouseover the image is often funnier than the actual comic.

Keep in mind that flash is the only way to do animation on the web, except for animated .gifs, and those have serious problems from a content and marketing point of view (limited colours, no real transparency). If animated .png or .svg files become popular (and get browser support from Microsoft), I...

I understand. I got into the school newsletter recently because I came second in this inter-school computer programming competition. I wasn't misquoted, he just took everything I said out of context and changed the meaning of what I said that way, and omitted all the important sentances.

If you're looking for a part time job while at school or studying, it's really difficult to find a aspie-friendly one. The only jobs I can find, aged 18 with no qualifications (except high school) are all retail jobs, working at the Warehouse or McDonalds. Paper boy might be good, but the people I k...

I'm about halfway through Godel, Escher, Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid. It's extremely slow going - the book is about 700 pages and filled with big and complex ideas. It seems to be a philosophical and scientific collection of related thoughts on intelligence and recursion.
