I doubt there's an elementary teacher in the world that would accept that answer. I remember getting in trouble for creating a product of primes, i.e. 2*3*7 and rearranging as needed. Anything but transcription and rote memorization was quickly and soundly punished.

Taking the definition of "advanced" and accepting computability in computer science as sufficiently advanced and difficult, not to mention mathematical. P vs NP is up there, but you can't bring that up without mentioning that it is a member of significant "bounty" problems - The ...

"Haha no. Noone beats me in maths." Heh, I can appreciate the boast, a little interesting to have a mathematician who talks like Muhammad Ali. Anyway, Mental Math can be learned, Arthur Benjamin is one to follow. I think it suggests that the subconscious mechanism for mathematics is combin...

Define totally math ignorant. I can give a list of books, apps, websites and things I've found that help. How to solve it is a great book, which served to structure the modern presentation of algebra and elementary mathematics to better serve higher maths. Operations (+,-,*,/), you have to be capabl...

Well it may be, but it's hardly any fun if you don't explain why. I could just randomly google various numbers. Well that does sound a little fun but it's certainly not in the spirit of the thread.

Yes.

Math is discovered and the discoveries are defined by previous axioms or definitions. Verification is the only requirement.

The methods of discovery, definition and verification vary greatly by circumstance and era.

"I may guess or hypothesize but I never credit my guesses as facts. Ever." This is very wise, I've made a habit of this at times. I suppose I always knew I was different, but didn't fully understand why. I've made an independent study of human behavior, but it's like being blind and learni...

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you. I just think that there is probably a reason things are the way they are. Perhaps the solution isn't technical, but systematic, as in maybe a non-profit organization would serve the purpose better than one admin and a group of moderators? The most obvious reas...

It might be a little academic for copying a drive at home but if you're good with computers, linux, and don't mind carefully reading the documentation, clonezilla is a wicked free software.

I've always been fond of 22/7 as a fractional form of pi, but 355/113, is more accurate. For e a similar accuracy can be found with 2721/1001 and I found this landing on an article giving python code which can be generalized for other irrational numbers. So, I'm pretty fond of 355/113 being the numb...

How much pi do you need? Is related. http://blogs.scientificamerican.com/observations/how-much-pi-do-you-need/ I think the answer is yes, if you'll grant me a little snark. Whole numbers are only a very gross grasp on the real world, transcendental measurements are all that exist in the real world, ...
