You go, Students of the World! The young people are the ones who are going to be stuck with a wrecked planet. If their elders won't fix it, they have both the right and the obligation to take action. Anyone who thinks students cannot effect change, never lived in the Vietnam era in America. I agree...

Hello, I took my assessment about five years ago in England. I think I waited 6 to 12 months for it. First of all it is absolutely nothing to worry about. I had to go to the psychology clinic three or four times, once for a long “Aspie test”. I was allowed to turn the lights off for this. I think I ...

Hello, you ring lots of bells for me, being told I was painfully shy - the exact words used - as a kid, poor social skills etc. I always wanted friends when young but had trouble getting them and keeping them was impossible. I had no idea how to speak to girls back then and would be alone now, proba...

I was diagnosed nearly five years ago, age 57. My first reaction was relief quickly followed by fear and a desire to “be normal”, whatever that is. I have heard similar things from others. I just needed to relax and accept it. What helped me enormously was researching autism and really deepening my ...

In the past I was told that I was talented at being scruffy. I usually wore cowboy boots, Levi’s a tee shirt and leather bomber jacket or denim jacket. My hair was long straight and greasy, with split ends. (I always liked long hair, the other details happened naturally). Now I cut my hair short, ab...

Good thread. No, not a gift. We all know how tough life can be with autism. We often know horrible loneliness, self hatred and suicidal yearnings. We are regarded as oddballs and shunned by family. People think we’re odd because we get interested in all manner of interesting stuff. Because we don’t ...

All of us Aspies are different, that’s important to remember. I have heard that Aspies don’t like the sound of motorcycles but I love it. I love rock concerts. I love being in a football crowd. Yet I generally feel like s**t in a room of five people or more. I think the key is that at concerts and f...

I had to tell my company and I chose to tell a few people at work, just people I trust. I suspect that others at work have worked it out though.

In public and private my heel bounces up and down quite rapidly (when sitting) or I might rock forwards and backwards when standing up. This one is rarer though, especially when my wife is with me as she will stop me. I know an NT woman who does the first stimming and when I asked her why she does i...

Like Seaweed Said it is difficult to reply, so I’ll just spit it out and hope I am clear. I have fantasised about suicide since my teenage years. I have experienced horrible loneliness and feelings of being a useless waste of space etc etc, so it seemed entirely logical to save my self further suffe...

Yes I do, though at times it’s boring and I don’t really know why I’m bothering. I wonder if it could be a form of stimming, because it does stop a lot of unwanted sensory stuff getting at me.

I Have found it useful to change the way I think about the other person, if I liked them or loved them at any rate. I just reminded myself of any little thing about them that irritated me, anything at all. While ignoring anything I liked.

This garbage again. Not a single reputable scientist believes this nonsense. Dr. Wakefield was struck off for lying about it. Vaccines causing autism is up there with belief in Unicorns. I come from a long line of people with autistic traits and so will almost everyone on this forum. My autistic an...
