My executive dysfunctioning has always been really bad, but since I moved away from home to start college in my country's capital city (Madrid, Spain) a year and a half ago it's been wild. I've only managed to pass one subject in all this time, haven't gone even to a third of my classes, delay buyin...

I think a lot of you lack a lot of empathy towards autistic people without a diagnosis. I realized I were autistic when I was 16, almost three years ago, but haven't got a diagnosis until a month and a half ago. You can't imagine how invalid and unsure I've felt during these years, how many times I'...

So I've just gotten diagnosed with ASD and my parents, my therapist and my psychiatrist are insisting a lot on that I should never consume any psychoactive drug because being autistic I'm far more likely than the average person to develop a psychotic mental disorder like Schizophrenia. Is this at al...

I felt like you do for a really reaaallyy long time. Since I was a kid I think, but it started to bother me on daily basis when I hit puberty at around 11. I felt so ashamed for not being like the other guys. I hated so much my voice, the way I moved and talked and walked and gesticulated, how skinn...

I don't know what's wrong with being transracial, race is a social construct after all, like gender is, so if we transgender people exist, I think it's possible to be transracial too, but anyway, I've seen a lot of POC activists criticizing Rachel Dolezal for this, so as a white person I don't think...

This thread is confusing the s**t out of me xD I'm not American and have only been there once (in NYC) so I don't have first hand experience there, but I thought the Midwest was pretty liberal? I mean, Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin have been pretty democratic for a long time. I thought...

Statistics show that the percentage of autistic people with a disorder of intellectual development is higher than the one of non-autistic people. On the other hand, research also suggest that the percentage of autistic people with an above avarage IQ is also higher than the one of non-autistic peopl...

Well you know what you need to do that you don't do, so that's a start. You don't need to be perfect, just functional. I make more or less the same few meals for dinner. I usually use paper plates, and I take the trash out about once a week. My dirty clothes go in the dirty clothes basket, and my c...

As an undiagnosed teenager, I've been struggling badly in a lot of areas of my life, specially at studies. Despite my high IQ, I've been failing most exams and subjects during the last two years of high school, which everybody, including all my teachers and my parents, attributed to me being lazy an...

Thank you for your answer!! Now that I know it's possible to have both ASD and NVLD I'm less worried about not being on the spectrum (I don't have a diagnosis yet, but I definetly have very intense and prevalent special interests and profound social skills problems). I've done two IQ tests (the firs...

Also, here in Europe the diagnosis may be different to in the United States because we don't use the DSM 5, so keep that in mind (although I think NVLD isn't a formal diagnosis neither in the DSM 5, nor in the ICD-10 or its upcoming update, the ICD-11)

I had never heard about this disorder before, but now that I have I think I completely meet the criteria for it, and now I'm having a bit of an existential crisis. The thing is that I don't see the difference between NVLD and comorbid ASD, ADHD and DMCD (Developmental Motor Coordination Disorder) wi...

I'm an anarchist, so, yeah, I'm autistic, trans, gay and ... not a socialist. :P not conservative either, yeah ... I'm studying political sciencies at college, and most of my teachers would say that anarchism is a form of socialism (excluding anarcho-capitalism of course). I don't know if I agree w...

Could be that he thinks that sleep issues are causing what you think are autism symptoms (ie that sleep issues are not an indicator of being on the ASD spectrum, but a counter indicator). Or who knows? I suppose the test wouldn't hurt in any way. That'd make sense... if he had at least asked me why...

There may be an EEG involved. When I did one there was, and glancing at the Wikipedia article makes it seem that there will be. I've heard that EEG results can be interpreted now to help with diagnosis, that there are some specific irregularities which occur in the aspie brain that can be measured ...
