I'm working on a short story and potential novel in which a major character has Down Syndrome. However, I don't know anyone with Down Syndrome so I'm going by what little information I could find on the Internet. If anyone on this site has Down Syndrome and is willing to give me feedback on the stor...

The worst case scenario seems to be that you're back to square one, if I'm reading the situation right. I've found that anxiety goes down significantly the more prepared I am for something. So maybe try to come up with a plan for all the problems you listed. That gets rid of the fear of the unknown....

Pensieve -- My parents whooped me well before there was an "Asperger's" in the DSM. But, man, it worked. Did I hate it? Did it confuse me? Did I have to talk about it with therapists? You bet. But B. F. Skinner and Pavlov had something right because it worked enough for me to change my be...

I was a closet brony for a while but one day my brother came home early and caught me watching the show and joined in. So then I told the rest of my family. It went well, though my sister still teases me about it. Anime is another special interest that I have not been able to keep secret for long. N...

Hmmm... after further thought I think it might have been my state of mind and the change in environment that made the trip go so well. I love nature and Polynesian culture has been a minor special interest of mine ever since I saw Moana, so I was eager to learn. And because of that, any potentially ...

Many high-functioning autistic people can navigate transportation systems, and otherwise adapt to their environment. Autistic people don't always have meltdowns and shutdowns. They might only suffer from symptoms under some sort of stress. In college I figured out how to take busses (on my own) sin...

So I'm back from New Zealand and the trip went very well... maybe too well. My anxiety was at an all time low, including my social anxiety. It started out pretty high but as the trip went on I became more confident about talking to people and even talked to strangers on the bus. I still didn't make ...

You don't need to justify why you like or dislike something. If you don't like Brussels sprouts, for example, you don't have to provide a reason for why, you just don't eat them. Life's too short to waste time on things you hate (that's vastly oversimplified; of course there are some things you abso...

You, too, with teeth troubles? But at such a young age! It's really terrible and you deserve better. Are you sure of your dentist? I'm trying to get another dentist but they always start with that huge roundabout x-ray that I can't afford. My best wishes for all of your health; may peace and rest r...

I don't think we'll have time for an all-day trip, unfortunately. Our itinerary is really packed. And I don't feel comfortable giving my location to strangers online, even if nobody knows what I look like.

I have been having infinite issues with my teeth these past few months, and just when I thought I'd seen the light of the tunnel, turns out one of the root canals I got was botched and they can't put a temporary crown on it. I need to vent to someone I know but nobody's responding to me. I've been o...

I don't plan on getting into political arguments though the professors seems to be encouraging it. I have to do a group project on nature and the environment so I'll have to get into conversations about that. I'm gonna try to avoid getting into any heated arguments though. We'll be going to Auckland...

I'm super excited to be studying abroad but I know this is gonna be the most difficult thing I've ever done. I think my biggest issue will be having to stay in a group for 3 weeks and basically having very little alone time. There's also the fact that New Zealand is a different country. While the ru...

Yeah I'm fine with them doing it, it just surprised me. I guess family members pick up on each other's habits. Mom walks around the entire house when she's on the phone and I've started doing the same thing.
