My 7 year old son was diagnosed with autism by an independent psychologist, not one associated with the school system. He wasn't referred by the school either. It was something that his therapist saw in him, and I agreed. This year he has been having trouble with reading, so I inquired about getting...

My 7 year old son is super into school buses. That is his main and sometimes only obsession. He is very interested in the different makers (bluebird, thomas, etc.) and the different styles and characteristics as well as the interiors and the bus drivers. I am looking for a website or book that would...

My boy is 7. He was diagnosed last year. He goes regularly to the therapist and had testing, so he knows that, but I don't give him the label. It wouldn't mean anything to him. In the same way as you, I can relate to him and say that I have problems making friends too, etc. This is the best thing, I...

I wouldn't give it back to him. It would be mixed signals. However, I would let him keep this new comfort item. Why not?

I have a couple years teaching experience but my bachelors degree is in something else. I'm thinking of going back for a masters so I can teach. I just worry I'm not going to like it as my forever job. I live near the school my kids go to. Somehow I've developed a bit of a negative relationship (I t...

Warning: this post is very negative. Everyone is different. But this is MY experience. Being pregnant was uncomfortable for the same physical reasons it is for neurotypical women. I was very depressed the first time. I didn't know I had autism. The nurses saw that I was quiet and defensive/private. ...

I think lay off him for a while. For his height that does seem on the lower side for weight, but maybe that's just how it's gonna be. I mean, you've been fighting him for years now, right? Why not just relax so he can relax too? I know it's easier said than done, you just want your child to be healt...

Lego's are awesome for any age, but then again kids can be as*holes and pick on one another over any stupid thing. Plus if he loves this, why hide it? Maybe it will be a bonding point with the other kid.

Here. Or with one of his special interests. If he likes trains or buses try to find some events or train museums, etc where he could connect. Perhaps your area has an autism group that meets from time to time. My area has one, even though we are a small area. They meet once a month and hold differen...

You are still early in your research and understanding. You likely don't know or recognize all the symptoms yet. Based on what you've said, I would lean toward autism. I think because my sons symptoms are so mild that people that don't know him so well think nothing is wrong. But there are some very...

Yes, but I don't think I distinctly realized it until I was in my teens. I knew others had more friends and had an easier time making friends, but I didn't know it was because my brain was very different. I didn't know why it was. But I did weird things and was a difficult child, etc. I'm only now s...

My 7 year old has always been a picky eater, but lately it's gotten worse. Now he refuses meals altogether. Today he is skipping breakfast and lunch. Who knows about dinner. His weight has been healthy to a little chubby. He enjoys sweets and will eat them day or night, like most kids. I'm not too w...

This is excellent. I would love if my local library had such an event and would happily take my 7 year old son to it regularly. I think sensory friendly IS a great phrase. Yes, it's kind of a code, but not one that would discourage others. Besides, people other than autists appreciate sensory friend...

This has effected me my whole life. I got divorced and I still miss my husband, even though we haven't spoke in 8 years. Like, miss him every single day. It's bad. Growing up, I would just have 1 friend at school. If they were absent, I would be alone that day. I think this is pretty normal for us, ...
