I stopped eating factory farmed meat when I was about 14 and I have only been able to find free range chicken nuggets once or twice but I do miss them. Its frustrating how few restaurants offer organic/free-range meat! I’ve tried making nuggets at home, but they’re just not the same. Maybe if I wer...

I used to love driving! I’d cruise around for hours for fun down the highway or backroads, and I had a few jobs with hour commutes I didn’t mind. I don’t like it so much anymore. I don’t know if this is really because I got older and burned out, but it seems to me like the general quality of drivers...

Back when I was teaching, we all found words to use to replace the naughty ones when in class. District maintained an official list of salty language we couldn’t use! I borrowed ‘smeg’ from a British TV show, and ‘frak’ from an American. We had a teacher named Frick on staff, so that one came off th...

For the OP (and everyone else): When it comes to posts, I read far more than I reply. I’m here to learn as much as I can from the wisdom and experiences of others, so I budget my limited WP time for reading, not typing. Just because I didn’t respond, doesn’t mean I didn’t deeply appreciate your word...

I’m Apsie, and my current work in progress has a main character with environmental autism. He was raised in such an extremely neglectful, emotionally cold environment that he displays some attributes of autism, such as difficulty expressing emotion and making friends. He’s the only character I’ve do...

Free range chickens can purr, too.

I felt like you told my story in a better way than I ever could. Don’t you wish we had resources like WP back when we were young? I would have given anything to meet someone who even vaguely understood my perspective.

This site. I had a bad moment today remembering my hellish school years, and it helped so much to think of the brilliant, caring, amazing people who hang around here. I don’t feel alone anymore.

I did not know I was "in the spectrum" until after age 45. Prior to the diagnosis, I hated myself and everything I was experiencing in life, nothing made sense and I never felt like I had any place on this planet. Now that I have a grip on this Autism thingy, I feel a lot more like I can ...

What was that thread? I really don't want to rely on Aspies and the like to carry me over; that sounds like too tiny a niche. The offer still stands to review your writing if you wish for me to do so. Oops, I completely overlooked your first post. My first book was ~182K words at the second draft. ...

I always took it as be kind and show kindness to them when you can. Like how we treat prisoners of war and former enemies. Any enemy could become a friend, perhaps the reason to be enemies is false. I don’t think it was meant towards people actively trying to kill you but to try to peace if possibl...

Loving your enemy does not mean you are not allowed to destroy them. It means don't destroy yourself at the same time. Loving your enemy is about internal peace. Your hate and anger does not affect your enemy any more than your love does. Hate only harms yourself. It leads to stress, stomach ulcers...

I use grammarly when writing. I just got my weekly report:

86th percentile for productivity
98th percentile for unique word choice
5th percentile for accuracy - it was even lower last week

Do you think all my typos counted as unique word choices?

This happens to me. I can’t maintain a neutral face, I show my every fleeting mood. I think in just about every case when people were staring at me, I was walking around wearing a facial expression that matched my inner thoughts, not events in the local environment. People were wondering what was go...
