Thank you, very sound ideas. I'll definitely spend some time mapping out some of my interests and forming projects. I suppose the only thing to think about is what to do when life gets in the way and throws off the timetable, but then however well planned things are, there's always something that co...

Hello! I'm in my 40s, and find that my routine has broken down, and I just seem to drift, not getting anything done, and becoming very anxious. I was at boarding school until the age of 16. While it was very pleasant there, there was a fixed timetable for the day: 7.30am - get up; 8am - breakfast; 8...

I can see where you're coming from.

For me, I feel invisible on Facebook. Whenever I post some (what I thought) wry comment or interesting link, would get 1 'like' if I was lucky. The people who got all the attention seemed to mention other people in their status updates, usually their kids.

I'm hovering around the 60-friend mark, but if it wasn't for keeping in touch with family in the old country (moved to the States from Europe) then I'd have deleted my Facebook account years ago. What annoys me is that the people I wold like to hear from are, like me, pretty inactive, but the ones w...

Just after 5am, been up since 12.30am, like a previous poster aptly put it, treading the usual path of dredging up negative thoughts, embarrassing situations from 10, 20, 30 years ago, inconsequential, random thoughts, all with a backing track that consists of a 10-second loop of a song that was on ...

Just a whinge, really, but here goes. I have a great deal of trouble 'being normal' (for want of a better phrase) in social situations, and it's beginning to frustrate and depress me more than it ever has. For example, I get the urge to share whatever's on my mind without any regard for the other pe...

I selected "I like my job". I was fired from my last job at the start of the year, and spent six months in hell, never thought I'd ever work again. But a voluntary position came along, working with digital audio and video in the public sector, and the upshot was, after 3 months, I was offered the jo...

http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2012/apr/06/autistic-workers-employers-ignorance?INTCMP=SRCH This is a fascinating article from The Guardian about the untapped potential of autistic workers in the UK. I'm assuming by 'autistic' they are referring to HFA and Aspies. I only wish there were a scheme l...

I did what I was told by my parents, teachers, and society, but have been left empty handed. Unfortunately, once you leave school, the rules change 180°, and I was utterly unprepared for this. Couldn't agree more! You play by the rules and lose. I think coping with unemployment is all about your sa...

Routine is everything to me, when it goes awry, I get very depressed. I tend to do a lot of housework in the morning, then set aside time to look for work, though lately it's just become a ritual that I'm heartily sick of, lying through my teeth just for the chance of an interview. I'll eat my lunch...

I've always had good bosses, except in my last job. The thing is, I discovered that, however badly you feel you're being treated, you have to try and split the personal from the work-related (I wouldn't say professional because I've never worked in a profession). My boss, like the OP's, was out on t...

...I seem either "under-qualified" or "over-qualified" for every realistic job opportunity... I sometimes wonder whether 'over-qualified' or 'under-qualified' is really just a way of fobbing you off. I guess if you're over-qualified, you aren't able to do the job, and if you're under-qualified, you...

I'm currently unemployed after being fired for the first time ever. I was unemployed for 5 years after leaving school in 1990 and ended up going to university to study to try and make myself more employable. That was in the UK, though, and I received benefits and lived at home with my parents, so th...

I was finally fired yesterday. The boss called my co-worker into the office and closed the door. They were in there a few minutes, then it was my turn. She said that my probation was over, and that I was terminated with immediate effect. She escorted me to my desk, where I got my stuff, then shown t...

I was supposed to have my 'assessment' on December 23, but the boss put it off till January 18. I'm hoping for the best but expecting the worst, as they say.

What an awful mess!

Perhaps I should be a little more precise. Wen I know what I'm doing and feel confident, and my coworker(s) are all just as geed up as I am, I really enjoy the busy periods. It's when things begin to go wrong and I become the botto of the peking order that the mistakes creep in and I underperform. A...
