In terms of discussion sessions, one thing that my institution's disability service office does for autistics is that they provide interested students with a "Letter of Introduction" which is separate and distinct from a "Letter of Accommodation." The letter of introduction is an... |

I am presently half-way through a PhD in Earth Sciences (focusing on igneous petrology/geochemistry). A PhD offers an opportunity to become a world expert in a particular topic through the completion of a dissertation and related work. One of my challenges in completing this degree is that I have ex... |

I'm wondering if they couldn't stop it or alter its course by spraying it with a fire hose. Even with enormous quantities of water, wouldn't it just cool a thin outside layer and leave the remaining lava still flowing? Halting lava flow advance by spraying water on it has been done with success, so... |

Hey all! I am presently a geology PhD candidate so I can offer some context. On a worldwide basis, earthquakes of magnitude 6.0 - 6.9 occur approximately 134 times annua lly according to the U.S. Geological Survey, so these much more common than the magnitude 7 or 8 earthquakes. Indeed the earthquak... |

To me, saying someone is "On the hook" for "x" means that person is responsible for whatever "x" is. Usually, though not always, this is said in the context of payment. For example: 'John is on the hook for tonight's dinner' means 'John is responsible for paying for tonight's dinner' Consider the co... |

The CN Tower is fantastic most certainly. However be forewarned the area surrounding the tower (especially on the southside) is undergoing heavy construction. What is now a big hole will eventually be home to a Ripley's Believe-it-or-Not attraction. Other places to visit in the GTA could be: --> Uni... |

I am a committed asexual, though I am not entirely sure what romance label I fit into closely. I am probably romantic but not sure which. I guess that will come with time.
In the meantime, I'm going to have some cake.

I am an American aspie who is currently a masters student at a Canadian university (in Ottawa). I do not have personal experience with the Canadian primary and secondary school system, but I feel I can at least provide a glimpse at what life can be like in Canada. It is a common refrain in the U.S. ... |

It appears that this is where ship-borne topographic surveys were conducted and, thus provide a better resolution of the submarine topography compared to adjacent areas. This is not the lost city of "Atlantis" or an underwater man made structure. Its just meerely an artifact of data collection. ~CGK... |

It also depends on the type of ground cover.Going up a grassy or compact dirt slope is easier than unconsolidated, loose sand/ash/scree. With the former, you loose some progress with each step as you sink in and go downhill a few centimetres. (2 steps up, 1 step back). Not so with grassy or compact ... |

In a real sense, Canada is the future of the U.S. My fear is, if those parts of Canada represent the U.S.'s past, that maybe the U.S. represents Canada's future. I certainly hope not. There are reasons Canada consistently beats the U.S. in international quality-of-life polls. Case in point, the sta... |

While most people think that "Mexico" is the official name of the country, it is actually called "Estados Unitos Mexicanos" in official formal parlance. As for us Americans, we use the names "United States" and "America" fairly interchangeably (some differences noted below. "United States of America... |
