So of all the 70 applicants, 5 of which were qualified, how many were hired? Right off the bat this doesn't sound like good odds, and not the way to place one's bets. One hired. Probably half of the applicants already had a job, and I would guess a majority of the rest eventually found a position, ...

I really like research and teaching. My friends, peers, TAs, and even professors tell me I should get my PhD and be a professor. However, I am frightened that my GPA is holding me back. It is only a 3.30 GPA in computer engineering. Although, I am only a Sophomore and college was a huge transition ...

Hi all, I am hoping some of you will help me with the beginning stages of a project about aspie/autie sensory experiences of the environment. I am mildly aspie, and as I have learned more about Asperger’s/Autism I have become more aware of my own “peculiar” sensory responses. Recently, a few researc...

I viewed myself (and still do) as an outside observer who is not to intervene in the lives of others but to study them in hopes of one day understanding them. the feeling of being an observer defined me from an early age. but it took a long time before i actually realized that i was trying to under...

Often when it's quiet and then I am startled by a noise (usually a creaking noise, such as from TVs and other things with a thin hard plastic surface when changes in temperature causes it to expand or contract) I will see a flash of "white noise" in my visual field. Does this happen to anyone else?...

I have a question that I think is interesting: how do people today define savant? the dict. def is learned, scholarly, wise but i think it tends to mean uncanny or peculiarly advanced abilities in some specialized area. i am around plenty of learned and scholarly types and would not think of them a...

Is there a difference between sympathy and empathy now or not? This got me confused as both terms are regularly interpreted differently. they are similar and more or less used to mean the same thing by people. looking up the origin of words helps at least see what they originally meant. empathy is ...

Anybody here like Art Rock? I see there are plenty of progrock fans here and I think someone mentioned DEV0 but other than that :? . what precisely do you mean by "art rock"? i am usually poor at categories. i skipped this after reading the blurb in the NY Times: The documentary features 10-year-old Wyatt, a source of insights about bullies and love; 10-year-old Henry, the son of musician Stephen Stills and a fountain of knowledge about dinosaurs; 9-year-old Adam, a curly-haired cellist; 14-year-old Lex...

To me, it seems that by definition, it should be easier for someone with an ASD to speak at a crowd of people, rather than one on one, or in a small group. I've never had a problem with such, as when one speaks to a crowd, they'll usually have a set topic that one has preplanned for; added spontane...

I don't want pity, but I would like them to possibly see me as a nice person with some neurological differences instead of weird/crazy/psychotic person. It's called "Expelled", and is written and produced by Ben Stein. It talks about the current supremacy of Darwinism in virtually all aspects of our society -- government, scientific, and all levels of schooling -- and the strict intolerance of any other opinion as to the origins of life on Earth. I...
