Well, I got the job and I never had to discuss autism at all! The woman interviewing me wouldn't have noticed (or cared) if I were green, purple, upside down, or what. It's not that she doesn't care about what she does, I can just tell that she doesn't care if I'm a little different. I get to try o... |

One way some (ASD individuals) can signal they don't want to speak (or cannot) is by colored wristbands where RED = Please do not expect a response and I need to be alone/quiet. YELLOW = You may speak to me and I'll try to respond but let's use care. GREEN = We can talk now and I'd like to be frien... |

Hello everyone, I have been searching the UK markets for DANA type devices. My conclusion is that they are really expensive here- it is sad that AAC devices are sold as though they are luxury items. Here are a couple of links to interesting things I found: Toby Churchill’s “Lightwriter” (I would rea... |

if I didn't have to speak, I probably wouldn't I genuinely do not believe that speaking is compulsory. Billions of people on Earth can not convince me I am wrong. Regarding sign language- Good luck with this, it is more difficult than it may first seem. I taught myself some sign vocabulary through ... |

Thank you for the replies. I have decided not to send the letter as quoted in the posts previous to this one. I realised that what I objected to was a decision taken without my consultation, so it seems slightly hypocritical to then write about those staff members to someone else without addressing ... |

... At the start of the lesson R***** (the group leader) announced that the group was going to play a game and told M***** to speak on my behalf. ... Wrong. I'm guessing, a little, but maybe: ... Before the start of the lesson, R***** took you to one side, quickly explained the game, and asked you ... |

Hello all. I have not visited here for awhile as I have been immersed in social skills classes. They are run by a local charity for people with autism. Generally the experience is a positive one and I do believe I am learning useful things. Some of the other people using the service are not overly v... |

...Given that, I hope that I am not negatively contributing to my sons condition. Not likely. Thank you for caring. I intend to show this post to my parents. Your son sounds like me. My sport was ballet. I excelled as a ballerina but was not motivated to make a success of it. I had not realised tha... |

I think the best way to stop being friends with someone is if you slowly drift away from each other. I'm not sure if that's a good thing, but it's the less hurtful way. I'll have to disagree with you on that 100%. For anyone, especially people with Asperger's, it's downright frustrating if someone ... |

does anybody else just make noises all day long? No I am silent. It causes great distress to have to cough, hiccup or sneeze, or commit any involuntary noises, which are mercifully few. John Elder Robison wrote in his book (John's an Aspie - great sense of humor, etc), he will often say, 'Woof!' TH... |

If you have not already visited, you could try re-posting this in the Special Silent Forum of The Haven. This is an area of Wrong Planet where some non talkers and partially mute members congregrate to share experiences and advice. I think it is important to distinguish whether your hatred of speech... |

I find it easier to type.
Yes. Typing is even more efficient than writing by hand, which is how I usually communicate. |

Can't you make her something? Otherwise don't mention the christmas present (it isn't really important), get her a card instead. The above is an excellent suggestion. You could make her a card, then write about A and C inside it. I would much rather receive a hand made gift than a store bought pres... |

I can't write it because I am very peculiar about how I write things- I use no less than five different colours of pen to do one problem... and if I accidently pick up the wrong pen and make the wrong color mark in the wrong place- I have to throw the whole page. That is very interesting. What are ... |
