I recently started using the term "flat-minds" to refer to neurotypical people, based on the hypothesis that the greater neural synaptic density associated with autism spectrum disorders manifests (or can manifest under the right conditions) as additional cognitive capacity suitable for a...

I'm a Gen-Zer and it has had a significant impact on my life. I remember channels like Angry Video Game Nerd and watching a lot of his content growing up as early as 3rd grade, even though I wasn't supposed to :P The premise of his videos are that he is a raging nerd who reviews video games. The pre...

This may come across as offensive to some people here, and if it does I apologize. I'm starting to reflect more and more on my experiences growing up and it feels like the entire time like fitting a square pig in a round hole. Autism is usually viewed as something that should not be shunned and that...

No it's fine. People still enjoy and watch spongebob as adults, even though it is primarily aimed for children.

I don't know how old you are but spongebob is culturally significant for those who grew up in the 2000s, and has a lot of references and jokes that adults can appreciate and find funny.

For whatever reason, my brain functions in a certain way where I end up day-dreaming and thinking of things that happened like years ago, but I still find funny. At times it can bring me to tears. I've only realized in high school that people find this incredibly strange, to just be smiling warmly/...

Yes typically. I realize now whenever I'd bring up my special interest, I think most people were offput by it without me realizing it.

I think my lack of social awareness really hurt me in my earlier years.

I have problems with humour. It's not that I don't understand a lot of joking that people do at the expense of others. It's just that I don't think they're very funny, especially if the jokes have to do with sex or relationships. I feel similarly too. I think it's that some people are better with a...

I have tunnel vision due to my derealization. I'm not sure if anyone is able to relate but around the time I turned 17, I entered a chronic episode of derealization that I haven't been able to shake off. Right there with you. I find that seeing things around me isn’t concentrated at all, it’s just ...

"Just don't be sad"

Granted I can understand where one might be coming from with this statement. It can be frustrating to have to deal with a depressed person, but obviously a clash in prior experiences between two parties.

I think that starting is the hardest part. If you are able to make yourself a part of a community, then interactions will become smoother and the people you get along with the best will be the ones you gravitate toward and who will also feel some connection to you. In the past, I have joined ready-...

I grew up with a similar mindset. I would value logical consistency in everyday conversation and had a thick filter for what I would or wouldn't say.

Then you realize that nobody really operates this way or that people don't really socialize in this manner.
