I put myself as minimal viewing. I don't own a television and haven't for years by choice. I got rid of the TV set when I had occasion to unplug the set once, and the noise level in the house dropped noticeably and so did my stress level. I had already known that the tube made this buzzing sound tha... |

I always bake for the holidays. I can't stand the stress during the Yuletide blood match/ shopping spree, so I've opted out for the last few years. I make cookies for all of the adults in my family instead. No one's complained, and they're all pretty certain I'm weird. As a matter of fact, I've been... |

Executive functioning is a lot for me of not being able to plan, organize, feel motivated to get stuff done , or basically "get my crap together" as I like to say. Figuring out how to work around it is another matter. Ah, yes, the motivation thing. After many years of battering my head against it, ... |

I've never seen the allure of the telephone in general. My dad always told me that I would understand about girls talking on the phone one day, but that day never came. I'm not nervous about talking on one, but when I call someone it's to relay information, not a social chat, unless the other person... |

36. I've always thought of myself as being fairly imaginative -- I write, paint, daydream, etc. -- but I suppose I do deliberately sit down and think about these things rather than just have them flow out of me, like some people. I'll start with a writing prompt, for instance, such as a particular s... |

I've landed a full-time job working in a lab... Thanks to those who tried to answer and help. I think I put too much identifiable information into the original post, so I'm taking it down. Chalk it up to a late night and a down moment. |

Yes, all the time. I've actually had people become very angry with me because they built up what should have been a very simple exchange or misunderstanding into a major issue -- without ever asking me what I had meant or intended . The entire thing may be a figment of their own imaginations -- but,... |

I'm having a bad month, or maybe a bad year... I've been having financial problems for a while now. I graduated in December with a brand new degree -- but no full-time job. I'm working two part-time jobs, with the promise that one of them will go to full time in July. I've just gotten a promotion at... |

^ My heart aches... Burns for you like 1000 candles On a warm summer night This line will get you any woman. Um, no. Just -- no. This would get the door slammed in his face. As for the OP, actually, it was kind of endearing in a naive sort of way. A heartfelt, "you light up the room" is far better ... |

Many "personal" topics are also topics in which people have many different opinions about and feel strongly. For example (JUST EXAMPLE) I were to say I worshipped Satan and believe having sex with goats is the only way to go (I don't in either case btw lol) some people would have strong opinions ab... |

That could be part of it. I'm not really thrilled with the level of nastiness that sometimes appears. Mostly, though, I'm worried about trying to move at a pace that keeps me engaged and at a comfortable stress level while managing a very demanding career. I'm not sure the academy -- in general, not... |

Just remember that understanding the why of someone's behavior is not the same thing as considering that behavior to be acceptable. It's like going to another country -- being a foreigner will only get a person so much leeway for mistakes, and being a jerk translates into any culture as being a jerk... |

I've got an issue that's come up recently and I'd like to get some input from others. I've recently finished a MA program in anthropology and am considering my options for continuing for a PhD. The thing is, although I love the research and writing, and truly enjoy teaching when I'm asked to do so a... |
