When I first replied here to the original poster's assertion, I agreed that the meme seemed a bit stupid. Later I expanded on that view and said that it's too divisive to be anything but counterproductive. I warned that the thread may therefore go south, but thought I'd give it a chance to prove me ...

Not saying strong socialism can work in a big nation state, but I don't think this idea of buying the means of production from the elite is the best thing to do, although it may be better than nothing. The wealth would still be concentrated into the same small number of hands. Another option would ...

That sounds like the kind of thing I'd have stumbled on. I don't know if there's a convention for FB-mediated events. Best guess, the convention is supposed to be that people click a button to say they're going, and for some stupid reason others happened to use the less obvious route of a private me...

I certainly used to have trouble finding the words when there were problems with bosses at work. There's this weird assumption in real time conversation that everybody has to speak then or forever hold their peace. In practice it's usually possible to say something like "I'll need to think abou...

CBT isn't inherently client-centred, and I suspect that's something that enables a lot of the problems with it. I think the client-centred approach can be taken too far, but without a therapist who listens more than they talk, I don't see how any therapy can work.

One chap distributed leaflets and then set fire to himself and was critically injured: https://abcnews.go.com/US/man-apparently-sets-fire-courthouse-trump-trial/story?id=109433903 Sounds like he was a Trump supporter, but it remains to be seen. If people were unsure as to which side he was on than ...

I had to flog my memory to think of a story, but finally remembered one. Dad had started to arrive home from work in a filthy mood. I made him a cup of tea, and he berated me because it wasn't strong enough - "I'd like some tea in my water," he shouted. Next time, it wasn't hot enough, and...

^ I'd be tempted to leave another message on the portal asking for a reply there, with a good real or made-up excuse for not being able to phone. Though if your matter is urgent, there might not be time to mess about like that. A lot of bureaucrats seem to think phoning is the only way to communicat...

I got it wrong at least once, though it was a complaint rather than an insult. A few people at work were telling me that my lab coat looked scruffy, and as they were smiling about it I thought they were teasing, so I "hit back" in an equally teasy way. Soon afterwards, the boss told me the...

Oh, emotional control? About 9 out of 10. I hardly ever jump about in joy, burst into tears in sorrow or frustration, freeze in terror, or whatever. I feel those things strongly enough but it's hard to tell from the outside. Not surprising. I'm British.

There's probably something in the control theory, but I see it as more than that, at least in my case. Dad used to say that although it took me longer than most people to understand a thing, when I got there I understood it better than most people. And until I got there, I didn't understand it at al...

There's a similar phrase, "Don't get mad, get even," which I think is more benign. It's less warlike without becoming too goody-goody.

Just one more reminder that business doesn't equal morality. That's why I don't give much support to the free-market ideology, and prefer that the wings of big business are clipped now and then.
