I dont think alien is negative. That’s her putting a stigma onto the word. I would fire a therapist if they said something like that to me.

Limiting blue light in the evening is really important because your body won't realize it's night if you have daylight temperature light bulbs in your house. Also use night shift on your phone/computer which makes everything more orange at night.

They're designed to spike dopamine. Part of the appeal is that you lose but then sometimes win-- it's not rational at all.

the apps that involve swiping right or clicking "like" waste somewhat less time because you only message with people who are at least somewhat interested in you. Still I wouldn't send a long or overly custom message to open because not everyone will respond.
