One more thing I forgot to add: most of my work as an aide was less on the academic side and more on the social side of things. If your son is doing well academically then it seems that the best thing his aide can do for him is be a good friend... and sometimes being a good friend means nudging him ...

I agree with MotherKnowsBest; you've got to know your child and encourage him to tell you when something is wrong at school. You've got to do your best to keep in touch with the school staff. It's great to have a liason of sorts; when I was growing up that person was usually my homeroom teacher or s...

Maybe that explains why I'm always attracted to the creepy crawlies when I visit pet stores. :P
Where do you find the "mean and crazy" ones?

Hullo, I have posted here a few times but never formally introduced myself. My name is Thobeka. I have been described as "borderline autistic" by some and scored the higher-than-32-whatever on the Simon Baron-Cohen AQ test, but have never sought a formal diagnosis. I have always had a hard time with...

I live in San Jose, Ca, which is considered to be the "capital of Silicon Valley." I love it here. To be frank a lot of nerds live and work in this area because this is where many of the big computer/internet companies are. I can't count how many times I have ridden my bike past eBay or Apple, or go...

Yes, quite often. I'm talking to myself right now in fact! I tend to replay social situations in my head and subconsciously recite everything about the conversation that I remember. I sometimes even continue to hold an imaginary discussion where the original one ended. I also practice talking a lot,...

Not exactly, but at my old job I have gotten in trouble with the ergonomics lady, who would often tell me that my posture was "too good" and that i looked like i needed to relax into my seat a bit more. I space out at times and am not very good with eye contact. Sometimes my emotions are not always ...

Cactus Man, I can relate to you on many points. Smalltalk for its own sake can be a chore at best. However, it is a skill that when mastered, can be quite useful as a gateway to new information, or to bonding with beautiful people. Furthermore, I wouldn't go so far as to say that smalltalk and nervo...

I have played cello for 16 years. I enjoy it quite a lot. I used to play semi-professionally and was in a number of orchestras and ensembles, both for fun and money. I did get tired of playing what everyone else wanted me to play so I started doing covers and composing my own pieces on the side abou...
