Hello, If you feel that being assessed for ADHD would help then make an appointment with your GP. As someone who is waiting to enter being assessed herself it doesn't hurt to raise this question. Good luck with your assessment. I’m not convinced it’s going to be helpful though. Since I posted here,...

Hello, I am posting here because, having been diagnosed with autism for a while, I am now suspecting I have ADHD as well. I am, however, confused about this and I would like to clarify my mind. It is mainly my constant restlessness and fidgeting/stimming (is there a difference between fidgeting and ...

Hello, I'm posting here because I have a big problem coping with fireworks, and I would like to know whether anyone here has any helpful suggestion that would help me cope this year as fireworks' season is approaching in the UK, where I live. The problem is I have a phobia of fireworks. These noises...

Thank you for the encouragement! That is nice. Orbiter - I have, so far, received support from someone who facilitates an autism support group I attend. She did a lot for me, but she is not a legal specialist, so I have been looking for further support. I have contacted an organisation who may be ab...

Hi there I'm posting here to ask if anyone is in a similar situation to mine regarding a welfare benefit claim I'm going through in the United Kingdom. I'm claiming Personal Independence Payment (PIP). For those who don't know, this is a benefit that can be claimed by people who have difficulties wi...

Hi,

I have booked an appointment for a formal Asperger Syndrome assessment from Dr. Gemma Casey, a London-based psychologist.

I wanted to know if anyone on these forums has ever used any of her services. If so, what do you think of the service you got?

To all who have replied: it helps to know that I am not alone! Thank you for your suggestions. I have actually already tried a few of them, e.g. stimming to sleep which works to some extent for me - but not when the neighbours' noise is on -. I wasn't aware of the differences between types of earplu...

Like many autistic people, I am hypersensitive to sound, and that causes me a problem at night because I can't get to sleep when there are external sounds. I'm having a problem because I'm sharing a wall with neighbours. They're not noisy, but, when they use some electrical equipment during the nigh...

I've been trying for a while to find resources about understanding people, and I am still looking. I have found a few books and websites that seek to explain how people perceive the world, why they behave the way they do, what makes them tick and what makes them stick, etc. Many of these books and w...

Like most people here, I find it very difficult to understand humans. I wish there was a book titled Understanding humans for dummies that covered the basics step by step. I haven't found such a book, but I have found a few books and websites that have helped me to understand people better. I would ...

P.S. to my previous post Even if I obtain the formal plan of support that I need, my fight will have to carry on because people often break the rules at my workplace. I'll have to constantly make sure that what was agreed actually happens. It's not a good place to work in for someone with Asperger's.

How easy are the adjustments to implement? Hmmm... At face value, the adjustments are not difficult to implement, but the difficulty comes more from the way the organisation is run. The latest workplace assessment report made two main recommendations: 1. that I am officially appointed a mentor - th...
