In the UK, it's such hard work because it depends so entirely on where you live. Some places make it so much more difficult than others, some just have no funding, some have nowhere to refer you to. I can't imagine that the route is the same for everyone. I really am lucky that I've got here at last...

I've just been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome- after 4 1/2 years! Just wanted to share my celebration with others who might understand both the joy, relief and crying of finally getting the official diagnosis. No one in my real life would understand, but you might. I've suspected for 4 1/2 years...

Really useful thanks.

Most useful bit is if you go to the appendix and look at all the scored criteria, then you can work out entitlement too.

I have AS and I'm a primary school teacher. Didn't know about it when I got current job, but have been honest since initial "diagnosis" by GP with people at work. Told I'm the best teacher in my school at the moment, and people come to me with problems with teaching, especially Maths (known as Maths...

So I've just started to go out with a really nice guy, who is similar to me in many ways. He knows nothing about my AS. I want him to know, if this is going to be long term, but just don't know how or when.
Suggestions? Experiences?

I completely understand where you are coming from with the worries and anxiety with a support worker. Within the last couple of months, I've started getting a support worker at work from my local autism society and funded by Access to Work- why don't you look for funding like this instead of paying ...

1- My smile
2- My eyes
3- My intelligence
4- caring nature
5- patient
6- child like attitude makes things fun
7- my family, if that counts, as they are truly wonderful!

I actually quite like myself, I just don't like all of the things that are happening to my mind and body at the moment...

There's a difference between being referred and actually getting the funding for it. I was referred for a diagnosis, but in my area (west mids) they only agree to funding for people under the age of 25. So I didn't get funding, so referral stopped and I wasn't put on the waiting list. There is so li...

Does anyone know of any good apps for aspies? Whether for autism specifically or just for helping in general?

I've been searching but can't really find anything...

Thanks.

What's interesting for me is that the info that my PCT has provided is actually not what they are doing. Birmingham and Solihull only have diagnoses for adults up to 25. Over that, it's an endless uphill struggle that turns out to be pointless. I might bring this up with my GP next time I'm there...

Currently fighting for diagnosis, hope this will give me some extra support...
Seems that few people understand how AS manifests itself in females, so would be interested to see it.

I don't wear sunglasses since I already wear 'normal' glasses, can't afford a nice pair of sunglasses right and have an eye condition that makes me very sensitive to both light and darkness so I'd constantly be changing glasses. But ever since I got my first pair of glasses nine years ago I felt mo...

It was my first day back too- and I'm a teacher! I was really anxious, barely slept last night. I was pacing up and down my classroom this monring waiting for the children to arrive. The only thing I can do to deal with anxiety is to put on my "teacher" act- it's a role I have to step into every day...

I have to add, it was the advice of YellowBanana that I read before I went to my GP- and it worked! Thanks, YellowBanana! Update on the stupid situation I am now in with my diagnosis- as I'm over 25, I can't have funding immediately agreed for diagnosis, so have to jump through a load of hoops to ge...

If you're in the UK, you will need to get referral from your GP for a diagnosis from a specialist- going straight to NHS specialist is just not an option. When I went to see my GP, I took a piece of paper with list of why I felt I had AS on it. She actually said to me to not give her the list but to...
