Thank you for the compliment, no sarcasm meant. No 100% NT. I feel like I have lost my connection with people. I use to joke w/ a friend that I caught his AS. Now, my connection to that friend is gone. We may say hello or send a quick email, but there is no connect, not any more. It may as well be t...

There are a few that I miss. The sad thing is, the ones I miss the most are right in front of me. I may see them every day and I may talk to them every day, but they are not the same. Or, is it possible I am the one that did all the changing?

Not long ago, there was a post here regarding the Asperger's page on Wiki and the horrendous editing on AS over there. It has become a war between the AS editors and the non AS editors, and the non AS edits appear to have won....and won in arbitration. It's sad, because the Aspies had sourced materi...

Inventor, You sound very much like someone I know, someone that is very comfortable with who he is....maybe I sounded like I was ready to riot, but that was not the intent. I agree, AS or even HFA should not be a protected class. But do you let the reporter call it a disease? Or, what about the doct...

Aspies should speak out, and let the world know they are worthy of life, that their mouths are not useless. Inventor, this is a point that has been a focus for me over the past year. How, do you get Aspies motivated to speak out? I sometimes get the feeling I am more indignant than some Aspies........

Earthmom, I could not agree with you more. I honestly feel I "knew" about my boys, but was at maximum capacity. And, you are so right about having a new understanding and patience. That doesn't mean it's not frustrating, but knowing why is huge.

So how do you tell an NT from someone with autism on the message board? (sounds like a set up for a joke:) WARNING: NT OPINION ALERT I feel like I am being somewhat dishonest on this message board if I don't disclose my NTism (lol, I can feel some of you cringing). Why the feeling dishonest, I cann...

I hope you don't mind me jumping in here, CAN is Cure Autism Now - what I have heard Aspies call curbies. Autism Speaks takes the position that mercury (thermisol) is the source of ASD. Both organizations share the same homepage, so I am unclear on their differences. I am sure someone will correct m...

My examples? Are you referring to my boys? If so, I am not going to hijack another thread with my reasons to suspect AS.....I wanted to convey the stigma attached to the dx and the wish for a change.

I don't doubt Wiki is called into question. But did you read that talk page? This was my number one source when I was researching AS. This was in 2005, well before it became the label slapped on every psycho (another subject I can quite easily go *off on). It was the Wiki article that had the links ...

I hope everyone hears you.......and loud and clear. And this is why. I strongly suspect both of my boys are Aspie, one 20 the other 14. The 20 year old I have suspected for some time and have casually approached the topic with him (he has an Aspie uncle). He refuses to acknowledge that it is even po...

FWIW, this is common in the NT world, too. The problem was everyone else, who called these girls tomboys. The tomboys didn't care about the label, as long as they were left alone. It was the parents, older siblings, teachers and grandparents that couldn't stand it. I grew up w/ a couple of tomboys i...

I don't put anything to do with mental health on the insurance. I was once considered "high risk" when all i took was an allergy pill and a pimple cream. Be sure you don't submit any medications that can be associated with mental health, including Wellbutrin, any of the SSRI's, or tricylics. Sleepi...

Hi Caramel....another NT here that has Aspie friends, one is a particulary close relationship. Reading through this thread produces so many (random) thoughts, I am just going to throw them out there. I apologize in advance if they wander. And for the Aspies reading my reply, please note that any of ...

SheDevil

relationships.........but without the romance)

Hi there, My best friend is Aspie and we have argued this point. When I found out the Asperger's (about 4 months after we met), I researched AS and continue to do so. I now correspond with several Aspies and read the message board in an attempt to have greater understanding. I agree casual acquainta...
