Whether or not they act like a ten year old, and whether or not it would be appropriate to treat them as an neurotypical person of the chronilogical age, they are still twelve and it is not helpful to compare them to an eight year old. My brother can't talk, and we've been told he is developmentally...

God damn it she never said her child was eight mentally. For f***s sake you don't treat her like you would treat an eight-year-old version of her. She's not eight, she's twelve. And that should be mostly irrelevant because if you note everything by developmental benchmarks you're going to hold them ...

I did some research and most of the scholarships are either piddly (less than 1000) or meant for people who doing continuing education programs for those with severe mental impairments. And no, you can't take those, because they're funded specifically for those continuing education programs.

My husky only really listens to me, but I know the feeling. I took the other dog and started walking in the direction he ran, and I called him once and he came from about three blocks down.

On our next installment of how my dad is being a total bag of d*cks, this morning he brought out the snowblower for half an inch of snow and woke everyone up at 5:30. When the dog asked to be let out, the gate, of course, was open, and our husky (which are not supposed to be let off leash in general...

Before you do anything I think you should check on the legal status of leaving home at 17, where you are. Even though you are less than a year away from being a legal adult, in some places parents can call the cops and have them bring back a kid who is only a month or two away from being 18. I'd al...

Well I applied for jobs and opened a bank account in the town I intend to sneak to. My older brother said he would consider rooming with me. Rent is 880 a month at the apartment I checked out, I can have pets, and it's two bedroom. Which means provided I have a room mate I can handle it. (I'll proba...

Well my mom and dad said something to the effect of "if you want to live in this house you have to live with our rules" over a fight about me making spinach instead of broccoli which somehow translated into how my dad thinks that I think he's evil and also that I can't follow simple instructions or ...

Yes you would. The neighbor three houses down heard my dad. They asked me if they should be calling the police when they hear that (and I told them yes). I think they may have been being sarcastic somehow though because as far as I know they didn't call, no one showed up. He finally got offered a jo...

Ear plugs don't work at all, I've tried.

Also I have called the police before, and social services has been to our house before. They won't do anything. My mom covers for him whenever he does something stupid like break down a door or threaten me or her or hits my little brother.

For one, turn your computer's volume up to 80, put on your headset, and blast the most obnoxious sitcom in the universe. THIS IS WHAT MY DAD SOUNDS LIKE. He doesn't have a job because he walked off his last one and keeps telling everyone he interviews with that his last job was "full of a**holes" an...

I was in the gifted and accelerated tracks all through high school; in middle school I was in the gifted program but also in special ed for an hour every day. The difference is the people in the class. Otherwise, it's the same material at sometimes a slower pace. Unless that's just my school sucking.

I like 1920's-1940's jazz. I'm not a big fan of smooth jazz and unfortunately I can never remember the names of songs I like.

Some of the father's behavior was inappropriate - mostly the leaving his son alone in the cot. Taking his children physically out of class was also inappropriate; he should have called the school instead. My parents gave me "the talk" at around the same age and school gave us "the other talk" about ...
