Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Is it even possible for someone to fake autism?

L_Holmes doesn't want to fake being autistic. He's afraid he might be doing it without knowing it and he asked if that's possible. It's not about wanting to fake autism.

Just thought I'd say that.

I can sometimes be quite sarcastic myself and I'm not that bad at recognising sarcasm in general (though there are times when I'm completely oblivious to it). I find it far more difficult to understand ambiguous language (I guess sarcasm is ambiguous as well but I hope you know what I mean).

Do you experience any migraines? Epilepsy? Narcolepsy? Eye problems? Look, I'm in no way an expert in this area, but there are a lot of things that could cause hallucinations like that. Don't know if ASD has anything to do with it. I actually just recently (finished it yesterday) read a whole book o...

My traits/symptoms are much worse now than they were in childhood. I suspect the reason for that is that life's less predictable and more stressful for me nowadays. I'm also doing worse mentally (depression, anxiety etc.), which I'm sure contributes as well.

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Any suggestions on whether I should seek a formal diagnosis?

I think you should seek a formal diagnosis if possible. I personally think that's the right thing to do. Getting diagnosed has pretty much only helped me so far. I can get better support at university now but most of all, getting diagnosed has taken a way most (not all) of the severe anxiety I had a...

I had to take the ADOS. I thought it was a tough test and it made me feel quite uncomfortable. It's supposed to test your social skills and imagination so perhaps it's not that weird I found it difficult (since I have problems in both areas).

Thank you :D I've definitely felt a lot better today in general, I don't think I realized how much anxiety this was causing me. I think I will probably still have problems accepting it for a while, but at least now I feel like that will start to subside. Before this it seemed to just get worse. I k...

Hey, L_Holmes , congratulations on finally getting some answers! I know how incredibly difficult it can be to obsess about the assessment process, autism and whether or not you have it and I hope that the anxiety subsides a bit now that you're officially diagnosed. I still doubt my diagnosis from ti...

I seem to remember clothing tags bothered me quite a bit when I was a young child and that my mother had to cut them off sometimes. They don't bother me that much nowadays but there are exceptions and then they're mostly itchy and just generally annoying.

I've been very afraid of many things ever since I was a very young child. I have three full-blown phobias: arachnophobia (fear of spiders), aviophobia/aerophobia (fear of flying) and social phobia. I'm scared of other things as well. Examples: certain bridges, going to the dentist, insects. Also, I'...

I am, among other things, hypersensitive to touch. I don't know exactly what I feel when touched but I don't like being touched unless I'm the one who initiates it (which doesn't happen that often). Otherwise it sort of feels like people invade my personal space, the touch feels suffocating and I fe...

So please get this through your head: no one else will ever understand you. It's the same for many other people. What's important is that you understand yourself and that you realize there are other things in life. Everyone is isolated to one degree or another in this way and while it may feel like...

Yes, I "subconsciously" notice things sometimes and become aware of them a while later. Example: I was in the waiting room waiting to see my psychologist and since I always scan my surroundings and look at things I quickly looked at things in the waiting room. A while later I realized I ha...

rebbieh : For person #1, you have to consider her personality. If she is shy or introverted, she may not always take initiative in contacting you, but it could be that they are lacking confidence to take initiative rather than actively ignoring you (as an introvert, I can attest to this). Missing t...
