He did give me a test, I had to press the space bar as letters popped up on the screen, for every letter except X. That tests for ADHD, right? Correct. It's one of the tests for ADHD. Should I tell him next time more specifically why I think I might be autistic, or maybe give him a list of reasons ...

Anneurysm , I have that problem with not knowing who's a friend and who's just an acquaintance. Questions: what if the person often (not always) responds to text messages etc and we've hung out outside of university about three or four times but that person aren't ever the one to contact me (I'm th...

I'm more uncomfortable with nicknames than my actual name.

It often (not always) takes quite a while for me to make friends but I've had "friends" most of my life. The most difficult thing for me has been keeping those friends and knowing what is okay and what isn't (for example knowing what's ok to talk about, how often it's ok to contact a perso...

Being Aspergian, of course, can be rough....but at least you have your basic faculties. At least you don't feel compelled to bang your head against a wall. There are times when I lack perspective and REALLY pity myself....but then I reflect on how I could be in MANY worse situations. Just make sure...

Yeah, I shrug it off too after a while but I still wish people understood what it's really like.

"Sure, but "high-functioning" isn't equivalent to well-functioning . No, I don't have same problems my cousin with low-functioning autism has but that doesn't mean my life is easy ." Perhaps I should start telling people that when they tell me how "high-functioning" I a...

I do not want to see a professional because I'm afraid that if I am diagnosed, I will use it as an excuse not to try to accomplish my goals. Why would you use AS as an excuse to not try to accomplish your goals? Even if you have AS you're the same person you were before getting a diagnosis, so if y...

NTs aren't the only ones who like talking about themselves. I don't do it on purpose but when I talk to people I often have a tendency to "steer the conversation towards myself" and start talking about things that are on my mind, my interests etc. It makes me feel a bit selfish sometimes b...

What about when you are focused on your interest? Does you anxiety drop to 0? I find that I am most relaxed when I am focused on my interest, although the things that I do related to my interest don't appear to be the most relaxing things. I'm not sure I'd say it drops to 0 but I guess if get reall...

I'm agitated and tired yet wired pretty much every day, and I can't stand it. Lack of sleep definitely makes it worse. I can't work out if there's any physical basis (apart from sleep deprivation) to it, or whether it's just pure anxiety. As I told my psychologist the other day when she held up the...

I would suggest that if they are things, as in things with an s, they aren't special interests, because a special interest is focused/singular and perseverative in nature, as pointed out by btbnnyr. If you have just been diagnosed, or are exploring autism for purposes of self-discovery, and you res...

Are you feeling better now, Rebbieh? There's LOTS in psychology to read about, as you probably know. Are you interested in abnormal psychology? Yes, I'm feeling a bit better now, thank you. I just get weird days like that when I seem to get overloaded and agitated even though I'm alone in my room. ...

A "special interest" is something that you are REALLY interested in--sometimes to an extreme degree. You seem to be interested in autism. Maybe you could Google the latest autism research? Or tell us why we shouldn't self-diagnose LOL What I do, if I feel tense, is I sit down and massage ...
