What you describe sounds more like introversion than autism to be honest, though obviously no one here can say for certain. Do you have any sensory problems like aversion to loud noises, bright lights, etc? What about executive functioning issues like poor organization, planning or follow through? D...

I have an app on my iPad called Autism ICE (available for Apple, not sure about android) and it states that I'm autistic and the best way to help me, and includes spots for all my important info like medications, insurance, primary care providers, emergency contacts, etc. When I was being transporte...

Nope you don't have to qualify, you can just Google your carrier and "tty service" and it should give you information on how to request a tty number. All I had to do was check a box that said yes I am disabled, no specification required. I have Sprint. As for how it's different than textin...

As many of you know, I go periodically nonverbal, and I've found a useful tool that enables me to use the phone when I can't talk. I thought I'd share it because I know severe phone anxiety is relatively common around here. TTY (teletyping something or other) is technically for deaf people, and acts...

I have a worn out blue Webkinz leopard that I bring with me in my car whenever I go out. I also have a small 3x3 inch square of fabric with a marble inside that I keep in my pocket and fidget with all the time. I love your idea of the marble! Did you created it from the scratch? No I didn't, but it...

Assuming he has a diagnosis, the most important thing he needs right now is to apply for disability benefits, and get in touch with your local department of vocational rehabilitation (assuming you're in the US). They will support him in finding and keeping a job. Disability benefits can take upwards...

That's so cool you guys, thanks for sharing! In some ways the extra work will be good for me, because I don't get out much and get bored a lot sitting around at home.

My sister has a shih tzu and he has helped her a lot, she's bipolar with ptsd. There is a routine, she gets outside regularly, she gets to cuddle, he helps with the loneliness. And warning - everyone likes a dog and people are going to talk to you, you can't avoid it! But this is a good thing becau...

I have a service dog who does similar things. I'm very prone to shutdowns in public places like restaurants and grocery stores, and I find that just having Merlin (my dog) with me helps ground me so I'm less likely to shut down. He also is trained to perform pressure tasks when I need him to ("...

I was just curious about what could lead people with significant challenges to determine that managing those challenges alone was preferable to doing so with support. You imply that diagnosis = support, no diagnosis = no support. Well... yeah... I mean, what supports become available to you after y...

I'm sorry to those who found my question accusatory or divisive, that wasn't my intention. I was just curious about what could lead people with significant challenges to determine that managing those challenges alone was preferable to doing so with support. I just know that I can't survive on my own...

Not a PhD necessarily, but a professional psychologist in one way or another to be certain. I had my IQ tested as part of my autism evaluation.

Cool, so something like deep pressure to help with the panic attacks? I’ve always wondered how seizure alert dogs were trained.

I'm trying to convince my family to allow me to get a dog that I would train to be a service/emotional support animal for myself. We already have two dogs and two cats, so we have a few pets already but I don't think I would be able to train any of them at this point to pass the tests required here...
