Having autistic traits but not having enough of them, or their not being severe enough to impact daily functioning is called broad autism phenotype. If your shutdowns are the only serious symptom you experience, that could be where you land. What causes the shutdowns? Do you have any major sensory i...

Thanks Wsmac :D I've been working with a service dog group in my state since September, and after a lengthy introduction and interview process, as of yesterday they finally invited me to complete the official application. Given that they already know all about my disability and what I want a dog for...

Am I correct in thinking you live in a group home? What's that like? I've often wondered if a group home would be the right environment for me.

"Dear Elon, This is what I want, but a robot. A robot dog would be really cool. Please and Thank you" Oh, if it were this easy.... I would love a robot service dog, that should totally be a thing! Maybe make it so it can collapse in on itself into a conveniently portable size, then pop ou...

I was going back through some of my old threads (like, from eight years ago, god I feel old!) and found several posts that sparked this question. Those of you here who are self-diagnosed but don't want a diagnosis, why don't you want one?

I'm applying to get a service dog, I'm really hoping to get one within the next year or so. It's something that I've been wanting for a long time, and I think it will go a long way towards reducing my anxiety when going out in public. I've asked to have the dog trained to give deep pressure, interru...

Total of 8, with 6 as the cutoff for autism. Nice. Mine was 10 the first time, I didn't get a score breakdown for the second time, just a description of my interactions. I'm glad you were able to find it!

I have a paralyzed vocal cord so my voice is quiet and raspy. People, older people with poor hearing especially, are forever asking me to repeat myself. When I talk to my boss I have so say literally everything twice. What really drives me crazy is when people appear to just blatantly not listen to ...

I've always felt that the movie Frozen was a good metaphor for autism; a woman has a condition that is both a blessing and a curse, which other people don't understand and shun her for, and which her parents spend her childhood trying to cure and keep contained. I feel like Let It Go is a good autis...

Actually I just did some research. My state is number four in terms of available resources. It borders the state that is number 25. Where medical supports are concerned, US states may as well be different countries.

None, unless I purchase them. Canada seems to have their act together when it comes to autism specific supports. Whatever gave you that idea? The only good counsellor I had quit because of micro-management by the bureaucracy. In general, I have found our system being managed by agents from private ...

I'm confused, you have a diagnosis but you have to pay for another one to get services? Why is that?

I do a lot of rocking, flapping, bouncing and spinning. I really like swinging on swings and getting deep pressure hugs from people too. When I'm anxious, I'll pace back and forth or in circles. I have a bead bracelet that I play with a lot, and I like carrying stim toys with me like squishy balls, ...

I had an interview today with a disability support organization who examined my daily living and executive functioning skills in order to set me up with in-home services for things like learning how to cook, reminders for cleaning and hygiene, help with budgeting, and going out into the community wi...
