Yes. works great for myself and both kids. We seem to be very sensitive to it and only take 1mg each.

I concur on the melatonin. It is reasonably safe and very effective. I get the liquid form though. A full mg just seems a bit excessive to me. I don't want something that will knock them out, I just want them to be able to go to sleep. I could not afford the liquid (it was like 3x as much for some ...

I know many of you have a kind of faith of 100% belief that Vaccines are not linked to Autism, but let's be bit objective - I think those who are against the anti-vaccine cult are being as emotional and irrational as the anti-vaccine parents. ... Today I am criticizing the voices, who most of them ...

I give both of my kids melatonin nightly, anywhere from 1-3mg is plenty for them. I start with 1mg and give another if they aren't sleeping by 9pm. It's completely safe as it's usually made inside your body anyway. I say usually because there is some research indicating that kids on the spectrum don...

I think it's great and since he knows the other kids I think he knows what's up. Also, assuming he won't come is sort of like of we had a party and assumed none of the nt kids would come. It does happen, but it's rude when they don't come because of the supposed differences, right? This guy sounds p...

Tell him. What is accomplished by "hiding" her diagnosis from her? Is she ever going to NOT be autistic? In some cases (probably many these days), children are diagnosed before they can communicate or even understand what Autism is (not to mention the difficulty for some children in under...

Tell him. My daughter is 8, diagnosed right before she turned 5. We have never hidden her diagnosis from her. We also include her in most of her IEP meetings. It's her life and ASD is a part of who she is. How the heck is awareness supposed to be raised regarding neurodiversity and ASD if people are...

There are many parents out there who research autism and some come here asking for advice. They say things such as "my son does this, is this an autistic trait"? With research and noticing many of all of the signs of autism in their children, they push schools and doctors to get their chi...

My husband and I are atheist, and therefore do not believe in an after life. When eldest was about 4.5 we went through this. We discussed and decided that heaven is really no different than the tooth fairy or Santa, so to try to get her to calm down we told her she would go to heaven and so, please ...

I'm self diagnosed, but I tell no one other than 1 or 2 people so that they can understand my aloofness and other issues. Otherwise I keep it to myself and the reason I do not seek professional DX is because I would like very much to keep my job. I don't think I would do well in another position but...

So is my son just naturally high-functioning? Not at all. He was probably exactly like your son, when my son was 2.5 years old. Hyperactive, no eye contact, can't even look at any static image, non-verbal, with sensory issues, you name it. The thing is, on one fateful day (actually, week), I came t...

It's not a sensitivity issue, it's a rigidity issue.

And yes, with rigidity issues, this is pretty much how it works, got to break down barriers. But nothing will make my daughter just forget about the tag on her shirt. It's not going to suddenly stop being prickly or itchy to her.

Im on board with others who have said that you should probably do the kid a favor and not marry his dad. The kid is 7 now. While he will change over the years, it is not likely that he will "Get better" as you probably imagine he will or that the situation will become "Easier" to...

I'm sorry but I also think the teacher is in the right even with the autism in play. Your sons behavior was unacceptable and disrupted the rest of the class. He didn't follow instructions, on purpose. It's not that he didn't hear them, couldn't understand them, or couldn't remember them... he just r...

Update: there seems to be some kind of miscommunication at the school, because the administration is telling me DS does not have to leave class early. He was doing so for a while, and now he is not, but the driver told him yesterday he must do it again. But apparently she is wrong. I wonder what wi...

Are you sure? Is it possible for you to go observe? I am at the school many days when they are loading the special needs kids on their bus at my daughters school. She doesn't ride this bus, but I have seen the loading procedure many times. The kids on the special needs bus ARE all removed from class...
