No one understands why my online friends know so much more about me than my RL friends do, but I find it natural. Interestingly enough, while we probably get a LOT more benefit out of it than NTs, they experience this too. The net is open and expressive without the pressure of having someone there....

The logic behind the motive for changing it is that kids must bully nonconformers for the statement to be true. But they DO. She's not saying it's right, she's saying it happens. And it DOES. In no way does the cause JUSTIFY the action, it's just the way things work. Your suggestion that she change...

How is this any better than ragging on gays or black people?

Well, the way *I* said it was ragging on people-- please note that's what I said-- rather than blaming a subset (NT) for a trait that all of them have.

I tend to find the computer to be the perfect way to express myself. I can stop and (click..whirrr) take all the time I need to find the precise word or phrase, without the other person insisting that their ability to talk over me makes them right.

I feel like a robot programmed by an alien who really wasn't that good at programming.

I am not sure its down to snobbery but more about logic and truth. It might not be true of all aspies but there is a tendency for us to point out things we think are incorrect... Yeah, but that's just an Aspie trait-- we tend to be insufferable know-it-alls, even when we're wrong. But the Austisnob...

Same here. Although lately I'm having a problem. I tend to slip on homonyms that would never have bothered me before. (no/know, there/their/they're, your/you're) And it really ticks me off, because when I see that sort of thing in other's writing, it makes me think less of their intelligence. I *kno...

I implied that everyone I meet during my daily routine is a complete and utter moron. Because they are. I would say that by and large, most people-- NT, AS, whatever-- are morons. But when you're talking to Aspies, you might want to make sure you use the language precisely, or we'll jump you. :D

Really? I would say that's more of an Aspie trait than an NT one. (Unless of course you're talking about something I'm obsessed with, in which case I don't even see the shiny.)

NT: "You're just going to have to try harder to learn these things." AS: "Okay. While I'm doing that, you work really hard to grow another three inches and make your elbows bend both ways." NT: "Well, I can't do that. " AS: "You're just going to have to try harder to learn these things." The real pr...

Who the hell would prefer to be bullied rather than being left alone? I've known people who I've described as "begging for a whuppin'", but it wasn't, y'know, LITERAL.

It's not that I, or perhaps other people on this forum, blame all our problems on them. Maybe not you-- but I've seen some real jack-ass level statements made by others. To be fair, a lot of this is NOT Aspie-specific. I know black people who think that a black person is automatically superior. I k...

I just wish mine was consistent. My "power" is-- or rather was-- memory. There was a time when I was working at a videostore and the computer system went down. That was when we discovered that I actually had the inventory in my head, complete with tracking numbers and locations. That was 12 years ag...

One thing I've noticed on this site is something that may be best described as autism snobbery ... YES. I tend to only come to these forums occasionally now because I have to rein in my desire to post "YOU HAVE A NEUROLOGICAL DISORDER. YOU ARE NOT ONE OF THE [ahem] X-MEN!! !! !! !! !! !" obsessivel...

I'm a self-diagnosed Aspie myself... but if you're self-diagnosed, you have to realise that it is not unreasonable (even if it is inaccurate) for them to not automatically assume that you have accurately diagnosed something that, even by your own admission, some DOCTORS are not always qualified to d...
