I prefer a manual transmission. Shifting is a stim for me and it keeps me from spacing out too much.

This is true for me too. I wrecked my first 3 cars (all automatic) but learning to drive manual taught me to fully engage with the vehicle and I haven't had an accident since (15 yrs!)

I do this constantly. It is like a never-ending dialogue in my head, trying to work out the different ways conversations might go and repeat responses over and over to myself. I hate it but I don't know what else to do because I can't speak fast enough to have a conversation otherwise. I had been do...

Before being diagnosed with AS I was given several wrong diagnoses including bipolar and was placed on lithium. I don't think I have ever had depression or mania, I just have mood swings everyday based on being overwhelmed and I didn't know how to explain that to anyone. I took lithium on and off fo...

I'm super excited about the new companion but don't have much else that's good to say about season 7. Hope the second half is (much) better!

I have always had long hair. I'd like to have it short but that would require going to a salon and exchanging pleasantries with a hairdresser pretty often and all of that sounds way too uncomfortable for me. On the other hand, my DD who also has AS recently donated all her hair to Locks of Love and ...

I have to take the GRE sometime in the next year as well and it frightens me. I was supposed to take it last year for my MA program but found out they accepted the Miller Analogies test so I wimped out and took that instead. My scores were not great but I have been very successful in grad school so ...

I think of myself as feminine but I don't wear heels (I'll fall down) or much makeup. My teen DD with AS is more androgynous than I am.

As far as my family goes, I made a list of all of their interests and chose the ones I disliked the least. Now I go out of my way to keep up with some sort of news on those interests. That way I always have something to talk to them about that I know they WILL be interested in. It's not always fun b...

My apologies in advance if this question has been answered elsewhere. I searched and couldn't find it. I'm still pretty new to this site and to forums in general. I'm wondering if there are any written (or unwritten I suppose) rules of etiquette when sending private messages. Is it ok to message a s...

Hi again! I want to say thank you so much to everyone who has provided advice and support. Based on your suggestions I believe I am starting to make some headway with this issue. I think the problem that has made my DD afraid of the computer has actually been a combination of the things several of y...

There are similar sites in the U.S. that list a lot of opportunities such as volunteer match. I agree that this is a great way to build a resume. My DD who has AS has been volunteering since she was 13 (she's almost 16 now) and has already built a great resume for finding a part time job in college....

OKC is probably one of the better "dating" sites, yes.. but wow.. between OKC and Craigslist, all I have to do is stop by to be reminded what a cesspool the dating scene is. Ugh. Indeed a fine reminder that awesome people are rare as diamonds and should be cherished... I hope you all find yours! Th...

I did this until I was in my 20's. As a child I would sleep on the floor beside my bed.
