Sorry, I don't know about the situation in the US. We're very lucky in the UK to have such good legislation, which means that often if you passive-aggressively wave the relevant subsection of the statutory guidance in the face of services that are being [expletive] then they will often immediately d...

One suggestion for anyone struggling to get their needs met by hospitals is to quote their responsibilities under the Accessible Communications Standard, which is in place for health and social care settings. They must communicate with you in a way that's suitable for you and allow you to communicat...

As Ukguy says, these days local further education colleges can be very good at helping disabled people. If they have a 'two tick' mark it's likely they will do absolutely everything they can to help people enrol and complete a course. (Being cynical, it's because they get 'brownie points' for disabl...

JCP is Jobcentre Plus for non-Brits. It's where we have to go for government assistance for unemployed people. (By the way, do google the origins of the word 'dole') The 'plus' was added when they added extra 'services' like computers for job searching. They are still [rude word meaning rubbish] tho...

I can do it at will too, though I didn't know what the muscle was called.

Dguru, it seems related to ASMR (google that!) and clinical hypnosis for me. I get that noise during deep relaxation in imagery work durings schema therapy.

Haha, indeed! Yeah, sorry for all the abbreviations. We're Brits and those of us unfortunate/fortunate to be stuck in the benefits system quickly have to get used to all of this. I'm doing some autism engagement stuff linked to social care and that's got a whole other set of silly sounding terms to ...

steve: apparently the way the assessment system for ESA works is that the assessors have weekly targets to meet of what % of people they put into each 'box'...JSA, ESA (Work related activity group) and ESA (Support gp). They can find themselves near the end of the week having been too harsh to peopl...

Interesting stuff Pezar. mm, m'dear, be careful what you wish for. JSA isn't fun and you are supposed to spend 5 hours a day 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year looking for work. The do have Disability Advisers, but they aren't generally much for to people on the spectrum. If you are on JSA they can offe...

Unfortunately we didn't receive enough votes to get the funding. However, we've got other stuff going on so although it's disappointing, we're still doing things for the local autistic community.

Thanks B19 for directing me to that thread. I particularly like the ideas of a 'Health Passport' and a 'Worksheet' to take to an appointment. And different sensitivity to pain definately needs to be included. B19: We're really getting things moving here now. This area used to be without services for...

I'm a woman with mild Asperger's and a long history of mental health problems exacerbated by not being diagnosed ASD til recently. I'm part of a local authority working group that's helping write new guidelines/standards for how people on the spectrum should be treated by government services. We are...

Thank you, David. We appreciate your support and I'll let everyone know if we do get funding.

Adult autism is such an untrendy thing to fund but because we're a bit different from your average cute kids community group, hopefully we'll get it.

Hello and welcome to Wrong Planet,

Yes, a lot of that does sound like Asperger's. I would broach the subject with her. Although it's scary to understand that your differences are caused by ASD, it does help you make progress in the future.

All the best
