I think I started puberty (i.e., "developing") when I was about 9 or 10 and got my period when I was 12. I stopped growing when I was about 14-15 and stopped developing at around 16 or 17. So my growth/development trajectory was pretty typical, I s'pose. As for emotional maturity, well, I'm still tr...

Surprised that no one here has mentioned J. Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. To me he comes off as the ultimate Asperger's posterchild- VERY monotone voice, flattened affect, not a lot of eye contact, kind of lives off in his own little world, etc. There's a book I own on the 80s American underground called O...

For me I think it was mostly shyness back when I had serious eye contact issues, but these days in the few circumstances that do cause me problems (esp. when walking past people on the street) it's mostly due to me being very guarded and not particularly trusting of strangers. I'll make eye contact ...

I got a 13. For someone who once scored in the 5th percentile on one of the visual-spatial components of the Wechsler's test (I was seven at the time but still, that's pretty sad), I'll consider that a major triumph. There's a reason I'm not an engineer...

My sensory issues go off the wall whenever I hear a blender or a mixer- something about cacophonous, high-pitched noises I think.

That's awesome! Both of my parents were really supportive with my diagnosis, but sometimes I wish one of them was on the spectrum themselves so that they could truly "get it". You're really lucky to have a parent who both supports you AND knows what it's like, because as supportive as my parents are...

^ Fellow Hoosier here! Small world... Anyway, my SAT score was around an 1830-ish and the composite on my ACT was a 28...scored a 34 on the English section or something crazy like that, which I definitely didn't see coming since English was always one of my weaker subjects, relatively speaking. Feel...

I've got a cousin on my mom's side with HFA, but other than that I think I'm the only person in the family on the spectrum. My maternal grandmother had epilepsy which I know often goes hand-in-hand with autism, but I'm fairly positive that she didn't have it- she did have undiagnosed mental health i...

Some of the ones I've learned from being an Anglophile and having an ex with a British family: - soda/pop/Coke etc. vs fizzy drink - meaning of "fanny" in American English vs. its meaning in British English (I can only imagine how much fun Brits must have with this one when oblivious Americans use i...

For someone with the triple whammy of being a left-handed college grad with Aspergers, my handwriting actually isn't all that bad. My cursive has gotten pretty bad due to lack of practice, but back when I used it in elementary school it was almost impeccable (could have been the perfectionist in me)...
