People and objects can shift from appearing very far away or very close up, and being tiny or huge. You CAN drive on it, as long as you attempt not to think about driving at all. If you think about driving you will catch yourself being unaware if turning the wheel right will make the car go right. ...

Obviously you can't find the cure for loneliness in a pill.

However, when loneliness causes you to be so depressed that it takes all the energy you have just to get out of bed (let alone to leave the house and socialize!), medications can help break you out of that vicious cycle.

A caution about foreign keys: as far as I know, MySQL only does constraint checking in one direction. If you add or edit a child record in a table that has a foreign key then it will check to make sure that the parent record referenced by that key exists. If you edit or delete the parent record, it...

In my experience, your wealth is inversely proportional to the coolness of your cell phone. I've known a few multimillionaires, and they all had cheap phones that were probably thrown in for free with their cell phone plan. On the other hand, I know people who don't make much money and are chronical...

Most people are afraid to touch anything of mine. My car has a manual transmission. Needless to say, I hardly ever have to deal with friends asking to borrow it. My TV is connected to the A/V receiver and my universal remote is set up so that the volume control always operates the receiver no matter...

Please bear with me, I'm kind of in shock here.. My ex-best friend and I started running online businesses together about 3 years ago. Things were GREAT at first. The two of us ran a advertising website with a third guy. I did the programming and administrative stuff; the other 2 guys handled the ma...

Ever have any experiences involving synchronicity? I've had several, personally. I'm pretty skeptical and I don't really think there's enough evidence to conclude that they're anything more than weird coincidences, but..they are weird sometimes. The most recent example would be a few days ago. I was...

Try moving the router around and repositioning the antenna. I've seen a few inches of movement make the difference between a poor and excellent signal. Also, make sure the firmware is updated. A friend of mine has a wireless Belkin router, and it would drop out every 15 mins or so. I updated the fir...

I don't confess to being an expert, but I found it was much easier to learn once you've got a specific purpose in mind (especially for the database part). Indeed. I have a lot of experience with PHP+MySQL, along with a few other databases and programming langauges. I've never successfully learned a...

You probably wouldn't like "Dark Side of the Moon" on headphones. :) I'm fine with normal music on headphones, but I have the same problem with those "3D Virtual Surround Super Spatializer" things that are built into some stereos along with a lot of sound card and media player software. They typical...

A lot of us benefit from stimulant drugs, muddlinthrough. I drink coffee extensively, and take ephedra here and there. After noticing how much those helped I went to a doctor and played up my ADD-like symptoms of AS, and got a Ritalin prescription. It helps with my AS symptoms tremendously, especial...

Yeah, I'm the same way. I can get internally worked-up about something fairly easily, but I generally don't see the point in expressing it. A friend of mine told me some good news the other day. I was genuinely excited. Apparently I didn't come off that way though, because he just stopped and said "...

The most brilliant computer engineer I've ever met didn't even finish high school, let alone get any of those certifications. He's written software for a major defense contractor that does things like conducting structural load testing on rocket casings. If anything were to go wrong with the softwar...

Generally speaking, the order from best to worst would be Marantz, Onkyo, Harman Kardon, Sony, and Sherwood. I think that any modern, decent receivers are going to have similar FM tuning abilities. Your choice of antenna would likely make a far greater impact on your reception. What kind are you cur...

I'm usually not too picky with mice--as long as it moves smoothly without tracking incorrectly or jumping around and it has a scroll wheel, I'm happy. Then one time I was using a friend's computer, and something seemed different. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, it just seemed like using the mo...

I used to do tech support for an Internet service. I know all about the second skin.. I was actually able to come off as being extraordinarily patient and friendly, to the point that quite a few customers went out of their way to contact my boss and compliment me. But if they only knew what I was th...
