Has anyone had musical training from a young age (five-seven years and older)? A number of studies show that musical training, especially starting young, can dramatically alter and develop connections in the brain - connections that might improve function of those with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Of ...

I was never saddled with an AS label either, since such things did not exist when I was in school. For all the reading I've done, I've never really been able to understand what the difference is between an autistic neurology and a neurology that makes you a "highly sensitive person," "gifted," or o...

My sister started speaking at 9 months. I didn't speak words until 24 months, at which time I made up my own words. My speech started developing after that. Evidently late talking and making up unintelligible words indicate auditory processing disorder.

I like the whole, "... it is outside the scope of DSM, which explicitly concerns clinically-significant and impairing disorders." Which is what I've been saying for so long on this forum. If you have Asperger's Disorder , you won't be left behind. Hopefully they will clarify what to now has been a ...

From the American Psychiatric Association Discuss. In making the recommendation to delete Asperger’s disorder, the following questions were considered: Q.1. Have the DSM-IV diagnostic criteria for Asperger Disorder worked? The ‘Asperger’ label has proved popular, ‘acceptable’, and has widened recogn...

Oh yeah, after too long in my special interests (one of which is historic architecture) I'll feel sick in the same ways. It's hard to pull myself out of obsessing, but to feel better, I force myself to quit for a while - that usually helps. Problem is I usually obsess about something else. Z

Hey criss, I took the test and scored 16 right-brained questions and 2 left-brained questions. I'm definitely "right-brained." I was always confused by descriptions of AS because I tended to be quite opposite of some of the descriptions (such as I had a language delay) while still having social diff...

I am also quite glad to see the interview. Tyler Cowen is one of the people I am quite glad to see interviewed. I've read his blog marginal revolution for quite some time by this point and I generally find him a somewhat interesting person. I think I should get Cowen's book at some point. Zonder, w...
