I don't even see how her being an "autism mom" factors into this. Her kid is clearly very high-functioning, and she attacked him just because he put a video game on after school. It's not like he's smearing feces on the wall and screaming 24/7. Which still wouldn't excuse what she did, but...

Perhaps you've just got a touch of post-natal depression, combined with too much time on your hands. If I were you, I'd wait until you're back in work for a few months, and then see how you feel about getting assessed. If you're autistic, the autism isn't going to go anywhere in the meantime. Also, ...

I used to do the same thing. We're both too old too have been diagnosed when we were younger, so how could we have known other people 's experience was so different? Like you, I now limit my exposure to overwhelming situations because there's no reason why I shouldn't. Ditto. I thought everyone was...

I was emphatically taught that everything that happens to a person is always their fault and noöne else’s. No exceptions. Denying this is blaming others for one’s own problems and feeling sorry for oneself—completely unacceptable on principle. So, in your view, the Jews are responsible for the Holo...

Are you trolling, or do you consider yourself a thief every time you drive on public roads?

Yes, what's your point? America is the richest country in the world, and could easily afford to care for its citizens. You prefer to let them die? Btw, the sticker price of my meds is about 1/2 as much here, because the government isn't supporting the enormous for-profit protection racket that is Am...

The government is providing it as a service, just as they provide roads and schools and police. It's what a caring, responsible society does.

Yeah, my expensive meds for a chronic condition are free to me now, as I moved out of America. Not sure why that's funny.

Everyone knows America is an oligarchy run by multi-national corporations. The citizens supply labor and consume the products. When they are sick (not laboring) and poor (not consuming) they should die as expediently and quietly as possible. Not supplying healthcare assists in the process.

Been there, done that, can't recommend it.
You want a romantic wedding night, or an awkward, fumbling, messy, disappointing, and possibly painful one?
Choose wisely.

It sounds a lot like depression. A lot of people think depression means you're sad all the time, but at a low level it can simply make you feel nothing at all. As far as intimacy goes, get naked in bed and watch tv together (assuming she's still willing to try something like that). It doesn't have t...

You don't have to figure out how normal/weird it is. Just mention it at the assessment, and let them sort it out. My take, as a parent of an NT kid and one with ASD, is that it's semi-normal at that age. Nothing to worry about on its own, but taken with other symptoms it could paint a larger picture...

Um... as a woman who loves sci fi and fantasy, including Star Trek, what that MIT librarian said was incredibly sexist. I've been told my whole life that the things I love are "for boys", and here is someone saying it yet again and pretending they're doing women a favour.

People with autism don't always know the emotional effects their actions (or inactions) are having on others. That's the part of your husband's behaviour that isn't his fault. That's the part you can address by having a very clear, honest, direct conversation with him about your needs. Once you've d...

Bring a small, lightweight umbrella, as the weather changes very rapidly in Ireland. April is usually the driest month, and lovely because of all the spring flowers. I'm fairly well acquainted with Dublin if you have any specific questions about the city. It is fairly small for a capital city, and y...
