Can we all just act like grown-ups in this thread. [Paddy789, Trianglar Trees] You can say how much an OS sucks but do it in an educational matter. Not Cherry Picking random quotes and insulting somebody for what they use.

You're right, it's all a bit silly in the end.

You can turn of the security warnings and set up the computer like you had it with WinXP. You can also upgrade to Service Pack 1 and run CCleaner. You can also can to Add/Remove Programs and remove all windows components you don't want. By default Vista sets up your computer in a Restrictive Mode Setting. That means you are not an administrator and thats why you can't do anything unless you disable UAC.[User Account Control.] Microsoft is tired of computer illiterate people blaming them for their computers being unsecure when its really their own fault of ignorance or stupidity. I do however believe microsoft has gone too far with treating everyone like a dumb***.

I disabled UAC last month. That only turns off most of the flashing, not all of it.If I hadn't turned off UAC I wouldn't be able to use my computer at all and then i wouldn't be posting here :) . It still flashes when I do things like try to start taks manager, lock it via any means other than disuse, or change my login passwor. For my computer to truly be physically safe for me, it can not flash to a dark screen than light again ever. I tried deleting messenger after I did this.

If you still hate Vista after a while PM me and I'll help you upgrade to Windows XP.

yesteray I did happen to come across the copy of XP I bought for my old computer 2 years ago. I have to look at it to make sure I haven't used the key the maximum number of times though

If someone is going to respond to my list of complaints of why vista sucks and say the only reason I am complaining about it is because I don't have a clue about OS, than I'm going to respond by telling them exactly why I know alot about OS. Especially if that person is going to say the only reason i'm complaining about it is that i haven't used vista when i've had no choice but to use vista for most everything since December.

I don't care whether or not people like vista. That's personal opinion. But telling me I have no knowledge of vista simply because I can say its hands down the worst OS i've ever used, including ones I used back in first grade in 1986 is nothing but spewing crap. Especially as I've said, I hang out at Carnegie Mellon University quite a bit and their vista lab is virtually unused unless absolutely necessary - no one there wants those computers because its well known, and well proven, that vista is very poor and sucky compared to the other systems today (and no I'm not saying that means no one can like it, I'm saying its well known by those I know who are familiar with operating systems, and those who are required to write OS, that it sucks, which is a completely different thing - CMU requires all undergrads to write their own OS).

I will expose those who spew crap, especially crap that is easily proven to be crap and has no basis in reality, every time I see it.So as long as I'm being told that the only reason I don't like vista is because I'm not familiar with it, I'm going to call that argument is crap. Because I'm more familiar with OS than the average user. And I personally know many people who either write OS for a living, or are going to school to learn how to write os, and at the university recognized to be the best in the US for computer programing. So I can prove within minutes that its utterly ridiculous to say people only complain about vista because of errors they make theirselves and not because of actual problems with vista, as Paddy told me was the reason for my not liking it.

I don't allow liars and crappers to get their ego boost by spewing crap in pitiful attempts to indicate they are better or have more knowledge than others. And I never will. If you don't want your crappy arguments exposed than don't use them on me

I'll glady, and very easily, prove to anyone who cares to that its common consensus at CMU that vista is pretty much the worst OS on the market today. just as I can easily prove the time I spend alot of time there.

I don't care if you like vista or not. but if you are going to say my dislike of vista is because i don't have a clue what i'm doing and not because of problems with vista I'm going to call you on it, because i do have quite a bit of knowledge about computers - I've gotten jobs because of my impressive computer skills, and while I've never written my own OS, I have written my own games and quiz programs. So to say I know nothing about computers it quite stupid. And I have quite a few friends and family whose job involves writing OS and who also agree that vista isn't worth spending two cents on.

My sister is an it auditor for a global company that has decided to not upgrade their OS for the next 3 years just because of poorly vista does. They did a trial with some vista computers - it took an average of 3 hours to 2 days longer to complete clients cases as a direct result of trouble with vista. They are hoping that a better OS will come on the market by then.

Well Vista does suck, I would just wait another year until Windows 7 comes out. I personally don't like Vista, In a lot of cases Windows ME is better.[ Please People, Spare me of any ranting for saying that.] If you already used your XP License i would install Ubuntu Linux. Easy to use and a very fast, reliable OS.

Wonder what they will call the real Windows 7 then?

Windows Vista is 6
According to Microsoft, they plan to build a major operating system after every other release, so that means Vista being 6, the next being 6.1, then Windows 7 itself...

My source by now could be outdated - but this is as I know it.

Windows 200 = 5.0
Windows XP Pro/Home 5.1
Windows XP x64 Edition 5.2

Windows NT was the revolutionary OS 2000, XP, and Vista were built off of. Yeah it didn't have support for consumer hardware but that was because it was a business OS.
