Top Ten Best Movie Sequels of All-Time
I haven't done a Top Ten list in a long while so here are my top ten films that either reached the heights of the original (or came damn near close to it) or surpass their predessor.
10. The Godfather Part II (1974)--This film made sequels revelevant and many considered to be as great as the 1972 original and some even better.
9. Rocky II (1979)--It picks up where the original Rocky left off but with a different twist to the story. It's also Sylvester Stallone's directorial debut.
8. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989)--The best Indy sequel of all-time that is pretty damn close to the perfect action-adventure movie. Plus Sean Connery plays Indiana Jones' dad, how could anyone NOT like this?
7. Back to the Future Part II (1989)--Even though it's not perfect like the first film, it's still one of the best sequels I've ever seen. Who knew that a sports almanac would change the course of time...ooops sorry if you haven't seen it yet.
6. Aliens (1986)--In my opinion, it's better than the 1979 original because it's more action and Signorney Weaver's character of Ellen Ripley gets even tougher against those alien b*****s!!
5. Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)--There is a reason why this won Best Picture of 2003, because it's considered the best "third" film of all-time by many people. There is a better "third" movie in my opinion and it ain't of the king, it's of the Jedi...speaking of which.
4. Return of the Jedi (1983)--I used to bag on that movie for having a unrealstic ending with the Ewoks from Endor beating the Galatic Empire, but now I root for those furry little buggers even they do get on my nerves. Plus, you get three battle scenes at the end and Princess Leia in a bikini. What more could a Star Wars geek ask for?
3. The Dark Knight (2008)--Sequel to the 2005 reboot franchise as the Batman going after the Joker (played by Heath Ledger in one of his last and best roles to date). Even though I like the 1989 verison slightly better, this is still one of the finest Batman movies ever therefore the best Bat-sequel ever!
2. Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991)--To quote the Nostalgia Critic, while The Terminator may have revolutionized the sci-fi action genre, T2 pefected it with special effects that still to this day is one of the best I've seen and the acting was better than it was in the original.
and #1 BEST SEQUEL OF ALL-TIME...
The Empire Strikes Back (1980)--Unlike the other two films in the original trilogy, the protagaongists lose the battle as Darth Vader and his Empire were at their most evil while we are introduced to the 900 year old Jedi master named Yoda. It had the best story, acting, and cliffhanger film of not only in the Star Wars universe but in cinema as well. This film even surpasses A New Hope as the ultimate Star Wars film.
Here are my honorable mentions:
Lethal Weapon 2 (1989)
Rocky IV (1985)
The Revenge of the Sith (2005)
Spider-Man 3 (2007)
Superman II (1981)
The Road Warrior (1981)
Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985)

Clerks 2 (2006)
Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey (1991)

Godfather 2
The Dark Knight
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Terminator 2: Judgement Day
The Empire Strikes Back
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
Honourable mentions
Batman Returns
X Men 2
Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me

Disagree with
Return of the Jedi - One word, Ewoks. They made the movie sadly anticlimatic.
Jurassic Park 3 - Alan Grant can now talk to raptors? Please....
