Decided to go ahead and start the marathon of these movies. I was dreading re-watching this one, but it's actually pretty solid overall, or at least it would be if two gigantic problems were taken care of. Jar Jar Binks is even worse than I previously thought, like a comedian who's bombing hard but won't get off the stage, and cutting every moment of his footage that isn't necessary for the plot would do wonders. Secondly, Jake Lloyd's acting is atrocious, and dubbing him with a better young actor, improving not only the acting but changing some of his worst dialogue, would also help hugely.

Not a movie, but a DVD compilation of old Looney Tunes shorts that I rented.

Homo Sapiens

It's an hour and a half sequence of footage from places abandoned by humans. It includes no humans and no words. I've never left a cinema with the same feeling of calm. I wish that this was a popular genre. I would make an effort to watch this type of thing regularly if it was: non-narrated documentary. Especially with little-to-no involvement of humans. It reminded me of another documentary I'd seen years ago on industrial food production, which was totally without commentary. I found out today that that's because they were created by the same person, Nikolaus Geyrhalter.

It would have been ideal to watch it in an empty cinema. I saw a new phenomenon, which I suppose was inevitable. A number of people of different sorts regularly pulling out their torch-bright phones. To check the time? Yes, and... To check their messages? Yes, and... To take photographs of the film? God Almighty. Ushers ought to have truncheons for this kind of cretinous thing.

You should watch The Qatsi Trilogy which was filmed using a similar approach.

Beat Angel.

Rewatched this small but great movie about Jack Kerouac coming back from the dead to save a demoralized writer from becoming a sellout.
