I have been looking for blogs from males on the spectrum to add to my list of unique and valuable sites as safe sites for people on the spectrum and people who love them. I added yours to my blog, titled as such below.

There are probably over a hundred female on the spectrum blogs on the internet, but very few male ones.

The partial nudity doesn't offend me, but just included the PG qualifier, so no one will be shocked when they come across your artful presentations of that nature.

If you wold like me to change the name to something else I will be happy to do so, or if you don't won't me to include it, but I didn't think you would mind. :)

"Care and Feeding of Your Aspie Blog for Unique Perspective (rated PG)"

Hey, at least you aren't afraid to take on the big issues! :D

Although to be fair, the people in my city who specialise in it do not refer to it as a disease or as a disorder - but they have chosen to call it a condition, as they feel that is more accurate description of both the strengths, weaknesses and general differences that arise due to it.

I wonder what you think of that?

I can see why they choose that word... After a bit of research, I found that it is almost synonymous with disease and syndrome, but without the negative connotations...

My opinion is that as long as we are admitting that there is something wrong, so that we can move forward...I don't care what it's called... The head in the sand approach only holds us back.

Technically speaking it is generally classified as disease under the International Classification of Disease ver. 10 and has been for over a decade.

It is an issue of classification as it is sub-classified like many other generally classified diseases under disorder and/or syndrome.

I use condition when possible and see that as acceptable as an adjective for any disease/disorder/syndrome.

The problem that arises though is when some people find it offensive to be associated with the other generally classified disability/diseases, by semantics, which are also referred to as disorder or condition like Schizophrenia, because they say, "oh no, that is different, that is a mental illness or disease. We are not like those folks".

More unsettling to me is when people found it offensive to even be in the same sentence with statistical prevalence of HIV/AIDs and Autism as a sort of "untouchable" point of view toward the former conditions.

I addressed that at this link, below, with names redacted, on a popular "self" advocate website, that has brought up this "discimination" on a pecking order of disabilities per the "untouchables" of Cancer, HIV/AIDs and other conditions that people often live with, and flourish with as well.

It would suit me fine if people referred to those diseases as conditions, as well. However, I don't like to see discrimination like that within the disability communities

They are human primates too, and we are going to see discrimination, as I think you agree, everywhere we see primates, no matter how noble they may feel as separated from their animal nature or aligned with moral set ideals.

We can always discuss and improve that challenge of primate nature through "cognitive cures" of behavior.

Which is why it is excellent that you bring up this point because the exclusion can often lead to greater discrimination in what one sees in the link below. By the way, the person got mad in response and said don't tell me my brain is a fatal disease. However, they were kind enough to let my words stand for their "compatriots" to read. :)

Yeah... I've never gotten that... I don't see how there is ANY connection between fatality and disease... but... there is a lot I don't see

I think they choose it for a range of reasons. One of the most obvious was probably because they want to recognise and celebrate our strengths - but not ignore or brush our weakness under the carpet - or to be defined solely by our weaknesses, which is what we are under current diagnostic standards. It also provides a better platform for understanding since it's more neutral, and there both sides are expected to make an effort (not just one).

But I agree that there is certainly an element of discrimination against other conditions by many of those who are touting the opposite to what you are. It bothers me a lot actually, I've had to have word with some other young aspies because of it before.

Feralucce, I have not read any of your blog. But I am VERY offended with the title. "care and feeding of your aspie". Sounds like people with AS are not human and should be treated like animals, house pets. Please show respect.

KenM: I am sorry you are offended by the title of my ongoing series. HOWEVERas an aspie myself, I will respond with the following: I am writing it with that title as a form of irony. It is sarcasm, BECAUSE we are often treated as inhuman. The series outlines how to interact with us and how to deal with the issues and symptomology of Autism Spectrum disorders from an insider's perspective.

That being said... while I respect your opinion and your right to be offended by it... It is not going to change... Thus, you can be offended, or you can read it...

Once more...I am sorry you are offended, but that onus is on you.

Anyone else here seeing the irony of KenM complaining about the blog title making us look like animals, when his avatar and custom rank are "an i mal"......?

As Feralucce says KenM, it is humour, and not supposed to be taken seriously. Perhaps if you actually read the blog, you would see how thoughtful and well written it is, and understand a little better where the humour comes from. Surely you have heard the saying "Never judge a book by its cover"?
