greetings all,

i'm 25/f, living alone, in a relationship (long-term)

i've done the adult autism questionnaire about 1 year ago and suspect that i might be autistic.

every time i do the test i score over 33 out of possible 50. I've done it today and I've been very
strict in how i respond, not judging myself too harshly, and i still scored 38 out of 50 which it
says indicate significant Austistic traits (Autism).

i have spoken to my GP (General Practitioner) about this and he has done the 10-item autism screening,
then referred me to a specialist centre but the waiting list is so long.

i can't expect to get an appointment until spring and even then, it's not guaranteed.

i'm feeling somewhat anxious that i might not even be autistic and this could all be a mistake i've made.

anyone else in a similar situation?

I went through this process as well. I self-identified around 2016 and approached my doctors (GP, psychologist, psychiatrist, neurologist) in 2017. I was fortunate that my wait was only six months because I went through my University connections to find a specialist in female ASD. She only assesses women so I suppose her wait-list might have been half as long? I was assessed ASD Level 2 (Moderate) and many co-morbid conditions. It may seem like a long wait for you but spend your time reading and researching as much as you'd like, and don't be afraid to self-identify in the meantime.

For the record I had 48/50 on those questions but I know that even 38 is quite significant.

Good luck and welcome aboard!

I keep calling the assessment centre to see if they can book me in advance, say in 6-7 months time, they say this is not possible. I guess my main issue is not knowing when I'll have the appointment and then also not being on the spectrum.

38/50 is from being very strict with my answers, usually, I got a score in the 40s range.

joining this forum is one way of trying to alleviate the anxiety, taking part in discussions with others and those who may be self-diagnosed and awaiting a diagnosis.

I'm hoping in 2019 I will receive a diagnosis.

Thanks for your reply, Isabella!

Google for Samantha Craft's list of female ASD identifiers. It was very helpful to me when I doubted my own perception.

ah thank you, I can definitely relate to the majority on this list and find some comfort that there are some traits I thought I'd experience alone!
