Is it true MrMark is the senior mod and has authority over all other mods? I doubt Alex gave him leave to run WP anyway he sees fit. Alex has stated publicly that he has had a problem with MrMark's actions in the past. What is this some kind of power grab?

Not as far as I'm concerned. Colleague, yes.

obviously everyone here has aspergers and has ALOT of trouble communicating but when it all comes down to it all i see is alot of whining. this isnt your board so everyones opinions are pretty much useless all the same. dont like the rules? leave. if you think the rules are being abused by one person you should probably let the one whos opinion really counts know. i like calandale alot and hes probably just frustraited & hes using the only way he knows how that will get attention. what a hairy situation either way, i dont think anything can be done at this point and i wish themachine1 would come back and everyone would stop fighting

There's NO way to get it directly from
them. Their goals are for the site to
be a heavily moderated one. Luckily,
it isn't their site.

Mephistopheles' flaw? Mine too, but I'm not sure
that 'tis a thing to be proud of. At it's extreme, it
leads to no actions at all.

On another more orderly forum, I think such a move would have been completely appropriate.

I don't agree. 'Twas a perfectly reasonable conversation,
though off topic. The split that he wished to do SHOULD
have been done - on another forum. The action that he
took simply silenced a flourishing conversation. Of course,
even splitting would have done the same, if he squirreled
the topic away in PPR, so here, I'd strongly suggest NO action
at all.

Here on WP the off-topic birdwalks in our threads have long gone ignored and accepted.

CHIRP?

There are both positive and negative consequences of this de facto policy, but it would not seem prudent, to me, to go about modifying it without solidarity among the moderators and a general announcement to the membership.

I think consulting with the site owner would
be a good choice too, but then I forget, MrMark
gets to make up ALL the rules and handle everything
as he pleases on non-technical issues. :P

I wonder if he really believes this?

Quote:
However, I do not think that his choice warranted this level of intervention, nor anger, nor the negative spin it has received in this thread. I think that any individual is owed more respect than has been shown, historically, to our moderators.

They have earned the level of derision
which they are subject to.

Quote:
The accusations were heavy and the tone in which they were delivered was ugly. Perhaps the responses you received weren't perfect, either, but I'm not sure what else you expected, going in with swords drawn.

There have been other instances too.
WTF? Since when can't conversations
wander here? This site is getting more
and more restrictive.

This is pissing me off greatly.

How this all started. Just the issue.
I don't think that the accusation had
a damned thing to do with anything but
overmoderating.

And MrMark's oh so polite reply?

MrMark wrote:

Yeah, he can kiss my ass. I and other members cannot discuss the topics we want to because he and others insist on dragging everything into sex or politics. ... In fact, he doesn't contribute much to this site at all IMO. Now if this were a porn site, he'd be Senior Moderator. Slowly but surely, he and others have succeeded in dragging this site the way of I2. People have PPR and the Sex..., I mean Adolescent..., I mean "Adult" Forum, to fight and jeck off til their hearts content, but it's not enough for them. They just can't get enough, can't get satisfaction. They've got to spread it around, find a wider audience.
.[/quote]

I think that the escalation which this provoked
was warranted. By the time QM showed up, IMMEDIATELY
tossing more insults into the fire, the fight was well on.
They well deserve to have their failures brought up,
again and again, when they prove that they haven't
learned from them.

Judicious members would do better to aid the moderators in succeeding at their duties rather than setting up situations that cause them to lose face or feel undermined.

Oh, but you see, I AM aiding them. I'm TRYING
to get them to follow the instructions that they
were given.

I doubt it. QM doesn't strike me as the type that taps his foot in a public bathroom, unless he has a stim.

Give him time. He's quite homophobic, you know.

Respect is something that respectable people show universally. It is not something they withhold based on the character of the person with whom they are dealing.

I tried, my dear. I tried. But, one can only be punched in the
face so many times, before you ask why the other is being
an ass. This conversation began politely. And even after the
constant insults from the mods, I've kept a certain civility.

Quote:
What you appear to be saying is that you ought to be able to say whatever you please to the moderators, in whatever tone you please, while they ought to be confined to agreeing with you politely.

This is pure poppycock. We NEED to be able to
complain about site issues. 'Twould be nice if the
mods didn't descend to mud slinging right off. Or,
if they managed to keep the tone NO WORSE than
that of the complainers, at the least. I was put under
fire many times by the membership (hell, I still get
accused of managing stuff AFTER resigning), and I
don't believe that I ever resorted to this level of
playground insults. It's really pathetic. Respect
CAN be lost, when you see something like this.

QM might be excusable, as some of us mature slowly,
and he's still young - perhaps a troubled teen at heart
(though THAT doesn't make the best choice for mods).
MrMark on the other hand, should have learned to deal
with his anger a bit more. It's a real problem for him.
