It is a fruit as it is "the fleshy seed-associated structures of certain plants that are sweet and edible in the raw state"

A fruit, from the point of view of botanists (life scientists who happen to study plants). That said, I treated it as a veggie when I was little.

It should be classed as a vegetable, on account of it tasting awful...

when i see a tomato cut open, so that its quivering glistening seedy internal jelly becomes visible, it turns my stomach. it's like it's ALIVE. 8O

Because it is seed bearing I call it a fruit, as are cucumbers and the squashes.
